As some of you may know, I'm not the biggest Neil Simon fan in the world. However, that said, it's sad to know that a show that got generally very good notices (even the Times wasn't a down-and-out pan, just very mixed-to-negative) cannot generate more interest. Simon's glory days are past, IMO, and new audiences just aren't there for the asking anymore. Look at the recent track record: revivals of Barefoot in the Park and The Odd Couple. Yes, OC sold because of the star power involved, even if half that star power wasn't up to snuff. But when a much older show like The Royal Family can stir interest (yes, I know it's MTC), it doesn't mean that audiences will stay away from a show solely because it's old (Hamlet seems to have had a good run, so far). It's like waving goodbye to someone/something that you probably won't see again. One thing for sure, the landscape ain't like it was when I started going (mid-50's).
