Im going with a few friends of mine I just hope it doesn't rain because for some reason it just always does when I'm in the city haha We'll probably try lotto for a show.. most likely hair
tking001 that sounds like an awesome day GO FOR IT =]
Usually tdf has a booth where you buy folded and stapled raffle tickets where some have stamps or something inside and if you get one of those you win an envelope with a pair of tickets to any of various shows. I don't know exactly what it looks like or if the ticket envelope you get is determined by what's in the ticket or not since I've never managed to win that one. I know you don't get a known choice, and some of the tickets are for Wednesday matinees, which can be a pain for a lot of people.
tking - I know it may sound like a lot to your parents, but the Flea Market at those 2 shows are pretty much all in the same area... at least in a radius of a few blocks. No major traveling. And what else would you do between shows?
Actually, if you go in later you will get all the deals (because later prices go down) but you will miss the rare stuff that goes fast.

Can anybody explain to me more about how the auctions work?
All the items' bids can be raised till the 26th online but then they're up for further bidding at the actual flea market?
And what's the difference between the silent and live auction items? Does anybody know the order of any of the items yet or what's expected to become most pricey? (Educated guesses welcome!)
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm seriously considering taking part and I'm a complete newbie! Updated On: 9/23/09 at 09:29 PM
tking, if I'm not mistaken, don't you have some sort of medical condition? I seem to remember reading that on here or was it another poster. If so I can see where the concern of your parents is coming from.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
Okay, for some reason I was thinking it was more serious. Nevermind then

I think he was saying that all the good stuff will be gone later. A deal is only a deal if you want it.

All the items start as silent auction items. First people bid online, where it's like eBay in that the bids go up in increments until someone comes out on top. On Saturday, the top online bid becomes the opening bid. There are lots of items divided into hours. For 45 minutes (I think), it is a silent auction, where you outbid others on a piece of paper. Then for the last 15 minutes of the hour, the items go into a live auction. The presenters go down the list one by one. The top silent bid becomes the opening bid, and from that people shout out dollar amounts or raise their hands until, finally, someone has a winning bid and purchases it for that amount.
I hope that's not too confusing.

That's two threads you've answered my questions, Yero my hero, thanks so much
It's not confusing so much as it is nerve-wracking, that's a whole lot of auctioning to go through till the item's finally sold, I hope it's not too crazy!
fyi, the percipitation forecast is down to 20% according to weather.com!!
Weather.com says 40% and accuweather.com says 24% chance of thunderstorms and two inches of rain.

Don't deal with accuweather.com as I've found them less than "accu" in the past.
Bottom line...if you're going to let some wetness dissuade you, go ahead! :) more fun for the rest of us! Hee! And 40% means 40% of the entire area their forecast covers, so it could well pour in say Brooklyn and be fine in Manhattan. Or even pour in Lower Manhattan and be dry in Times Square.
If anyone is interested in seeing any shows the day of the Flea Market-TDF has a good number of shows on the list for that day including Shrek and Next to Normal-which is right in the middle of the Flea Market basically. Two of my friends are seeing N2N and myself and ANOTHER friend are seeing Toxic Avenger-all at night. Anyone have any ideas how the rush for Birdie works? I'd love to catch the matinee of that on Sunday.
ppc ~ Roundabout's General Rush is when the box office opens. I believe for Birdie it's $26.50, cash, two per person. Those tend to be in the mezzanine, usually mid to rear at their other houses so I'd assume it's the same here. Student Rush is 30 minutes before curtain, half price of whatever is left (yes, that means if an orchestra ticket is $120 the student rush price would be $60).
tking001, you should be fine (I once did 4 shows in one day, and lived to tell about it---and I didn't fall asleep!) It does make for a long day, but you'll be okay.
And if Hugh Jackman and/or Daniel Craig do show up, they will probably be premium photos, and that will knock a lot of people out.
