CurtainPullDowner, I agree, Constantine will not save the Wedding Singer alone. He has pulled the numbers up a bit, though. There are a lot of discount tickets out there, too. The cast is also changing again with Laura coming back. I could make a lot more excuses, but I certainly hope the show continues on. It is so entertaining. I love the songs and the cast kept me laughing throughout the night. Even if they sell more tickets, with all the discounted ones out there, it's got to be hard to break even. I guess I didn't realize how much $$ it takes to keep a show open. Let's hope Laura's return will help pump up the numbers.

Dec. 31 is the date of closure. I've had my money on it since the reviews came out.
Look for a pathetic attempt to save Tarzan with stunt casting come January. I doubt very much they will keep it until Mermaid opens. I think they will stunt cast Jane and Kala roles. There is no way that show can weather the winter. They said they have an advance through next year, I doubt buses are booking that show anymore. It's a stinker.

I don't see how one can make a case that Constantine has had any effect on the box office. The show went from the $500,000-$600,000 range for most of the summer weeks to low to mid $400,000 during September while he's been in the show. Now, September is a notoriously difficult time for the theatre, but by comparison, Usher has driven Chicago's grosses from around $500,000 to around $750,000 during the same period. No saying what the grosses for Wedding Singer would have been like if Constantine hadn't been in the show, but it's not reversing the fortunes of that production.

Excellent points. Though Con HAS generated some remote interest in the show among non-seasoned, non-veteran theater goers (which can be a positive thing), the numbers haven't really changed that much since he joined the cast. He just isn't as big of a name as say, well, Usher.
On a side note, didn't someone previously mention that it takes anywhere between $500,000-600,000 in order for the show to break even?

It does take between that much to break even, closer to $600 than $500, though. It's a big show.

RENT's weekly operating costs are around $275,000...
Looks like its Curtains for The Wedding Singer...literally!
