I've noticed that this time of year is very slow for many shows. I saw Aladdin this past weekend and there were a lot of seats in the Mezz and Balcony that were empty. Once Thanksgiving and Christmas come around (which is very soon), everyone rushes to see a production. I'm seeing Matilda the day before NYE and I heard that whole week is going to be a sell out for almost every show.

It will be a totally different story starting 1/2/15
The bloodbath (voluntary or otherwise) will be brutal. No worry about open theaters after it all plays out.

Yes, this is always a brutal time on the boards. Shows that aren't doing well and don't have much of an advance, will all be posting notices about closing after the first of the year.
At this point, most of them will hang on to benefit from the very busy holiday season.

That's not an extension. That was the original sell through date.

"I saw Aladdin this past weekend and there were a lot of seats in the Mezz and Balcony that were empty."
A show aimed largely at kids not selling a lot of tickets on Halloween weekend doesn't seem to indicate anything beyond it being Halloween.

Halloween typically is a bad night for theaters. I have to wonder why most shows doing change their schedule for the week. Next year will be worse as Halloween falls on a Saturday.
The next shows I see announcing a closing date are: The Last Ship, Side Show, Mamma Mia & Love Letters.

I can't see Mamma Mia! closing just yet, it's doing okay at the Broadhurst and it'll pick up with the upcoming holidays.

OTT will be around for quite awhile. This week will be way up,a nd the following week even better.
Do you have insight into the box office? Or, are you guessing this from something? (Not meaning to be sarcastic, I am truly wondering if you have information to support this).

Posted: 11/5/14 at 12:27pmI actually saw it on a Sunday, which to me seems like a big day for many families to see a show. But yes, you're right. Halloween leaves many theaters empty.
