Yikes! I hope GYPSY is only that low because of Patti's absences.

I was wondering how much of Gypsy's drop was because of Patti's absence.

WOW --

How is Equus at less than 50%???
Why is 39 Steps transferring with 45%??
How much longer can August run at 53%??

Was it just a HORRIBLE week? Does that normally happen before a big holiday rush???

This is so sad. I wonder how much longer AVE Q can make it. Good for BILLY ELLIOT. I have hope for SHREK because a lot of shows (Gypsy, Jersey Boys) have low preview grosses and then do better after opening -- if they get good reviews.

I had really expected Equus to do better.

its funny because I was just wondering why August discounts are less than wonderful, and how come its never on TDF, etc.

At 53% youd think theyd make some more tickets more affordable....

>Why is 39 Steps transferring with 45%??<

Because even though it had a soft November, The 39 Steps's business is fine for December and the producers believe in it.

I wonder if THE 39 STEPS will just close instead of transfer.

In any case, this was a terrible week. But it's not really a surprise.

I would imagine that the new location alone would help The 39 Steps sell more tickets. It has to be an incredibly cheap show to run and it will get great exposure on 44th Street, as opposed to being in the boondocks where it is now.

EDIT- And isn't it kinda cool that Speed-the-Plow grossed a 100k more than Equus last week? Updated On: 11/24/08 at 09:07 PM

Wow. Harvey's return doesn't seem to be helping HAIRSPRAY's grosses at all. What does that say about the state of the economy! It doesn't look promising for an extended run. There's apparently no need. And look at those numbers across the board... not a single show had 100% capacity.

Has Broadway's struggles received any press from the local stations in NYC? Haven't seen much on the natinal newscasts or cable channels.

It'll get better. It's an economic slump on top of a crap time of year regardless of the economy. EVERY show is struggling. They won't shut down Broadway, not every show will close, we'll all be okay. Like the poster above said: breathe.

poor Broadway re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/23re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/23

DAMN ECONOMY!!!
And what's really sucky is that even once Obama takes office and we get a bunch of fresh new blood handling the economy, it's still probably going to take quite a while before everything's back to normal. *sigh*

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not like.. fearing that Broadway will completely disappear. It's just really sad to see how poorly ALL the shows are doing- even the big name ones.

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

LOL @ Phantom.

I'm really impressed at the figures for South pacific, this revival has been amazingly successful!

I'm also surprised by how poorly EQUUS is doing. I was expecting it to be a big success.

No one should be surprised by the success of South Pacific. Then and now it is a momentous show. Some people feel it was originally so popular that Broadway as a whole suffered.

I'm sorry so many good shows may be forced to close and many producers will likely hold off with new projects. But other great productions will come along.

I don't know about everyone else but I am waiting for Marissa to get back to Hairspray before I see it. Maybe others are holding out as well, hopefully it will pick up when they are both back.

Even allowing for a bad week all around, does anyone still think Shrek will be a hit?
