FOLLIES is in trouble. Tomorrow night's show is currently only 30% sold. I am absolutely perplexed as to why they have yet again not released a discount code in time.

Well, Godspell had press night on Thursday so many of those seats were comped explaining the high capacity, with small percentage of gross.

VENUS IN FUR is an MTC production with heavily discounted subscription seating, so that would create a high attendance with a much lower potential gross.

Even if that Los Angeles rumour doesn't pan out, I wonder if FOLLIES might go ahead and scrap their 2 week extension and close on December 31 as originally planned.

really thought we'd see better numbers for this week. wasn't expecting great numbers, just something better than last week considering the Saturday snow storm. some people must be holding off until the holidays.

I don't know what effect this really had on shows, but large parts of Connecticut and suburban New Jersey were without power for the entire week and are still dealing with the mess from last week's snow.

Sister Act must be running on fumes. Only 4 out of the last 13 weeks have been even slightly over 50% gross potential. Before that wasn't much better. Their highest gross potential was 66.99% in June. I don't know how this show was budgeted nor how they're managing to hang on. Their weekly nut has to be $600k or lower is the only way I can figure it.

There is a discount code good through Jan. 22nd. Probably holiday blackout dates, of course.

I think Sister Act is just breaking even right now. A show like this should have a running cost of about $650K-$700. Most weeks have been above $700K and the upcoming holidays should give them a big boost to get the show open through the winter.

As for Poppins, it either makes a ton of money or it's not making anything. It's all based on when schools are out. And I don't think Disney will close Poppins until something's ready to go into that theater(Aladdin??). If Aladdin is ready by Spring 2013, Poppins will be gone by New Year's 2012.

I think it's interesting how Hugh Jackman's numbers dropped so much this week. Maybe that huge price increase they thought people would blindly pay isn't working out too well for them.

What I find most interesting about Hugh Jackman's show is that it's doing 109% gross potential with only 84% attendance. That is a lot premium tickets being sold.

Jackman's numbers dropped because there were only 7 performances last week. The chart says 8, but that's wrong.

Re: Follies

The show itself is acclaimed a masterpiece. This production receives all-around accolades. Bernadette Peters is a box-office draw.

And yet the show plays to 2/3-full houses.

What gives?

^I wouldn't really say that Follies and Bernadette Peters themselves are huge draws for the tourists.

Follies is a tough sell to tourists because, for the most part, they are usually families.

I have a few theater friends in town, and it's a tough sell trying to get them to see Follies. It's a little "dark" for someone who enjoys Sister Act, Xanadu, etc.

I would suspect the Halloween weekend festivities and the marathon on Sunday may also play into the dip in attendance for last week. I know of a few theaters that had real low attendance over the Halloween weekend.

I'm agnostic, yet I'm still praying that "Follies" sticks it out goes through with the extension. I really don't want to miss this show by five measly days.
