OUCH!!! Really crappy numbers all around. Maybe it's time for Mamma Mia to close up?? Hopefully we'll see some big numbers the next few weeks!!
Mamma Mia is not closing up shop. It is supposedly moving to another theater.
What's going on with Chinglish? Why is that able to run for so long and BnC has to close?
What would be the point of Mamma Mia moving? I'm not disputing you, just not sure why they would even bother.
Mamma Mia has served its purpose and then some. Let it go. Or build an ABBA theme park in Queens and let it run forever there.
They are moving to a smaller house where they will likely be selling to more capacity of the theater and will be a little cheaper with rent.
Believe me, once next summer is over, there is going to be 2 shows moving theaters.
Lion King is moving to the Helen Hayes
Chicago is going to the Booth, Mamma Mia to the Ambassador and then Matilda from the West End is supposedly going into the Winter Garden.
Chicago should just close.
Maybe you should close. Not liking a production doesn't justify wanting it to close if it's doing well. That was a pretty mean spirited post.
I never said I didn't like Chicago. I just find it's a now tired production that stays alive by stunt casting people incapable of playing their roles. Also blaxx your criticizing somebodies attitude?
The Booth is such a wonderful venue for straight plays, I would hate to see it go to a show like CHICAGO which could tie it up for years.

This week was ugly all around. Where are the tourists? This should be a busy time for Broadway.

It's you're, love, as in "you are". And it's somebody's, not "somebodies".
And if you find it to be such a tired production, there are many others you can try. No matter what I think of a Broadway show, I would never wish it closed because of my opinion of it.
The Booth is one of my favorite theatres. I'd hate to see it tied up with Chicago.
CHICAGO really should close. It's not like it's selling well enough to justify a move. And it would be a smart move for MAMMA MIA to take its place in order to make room for MATILDA.
And it looks like those reviews haven't done much for good ol' LYSISTRATA JONES. Clearly, the producers are holding on with the hope that the good notices will boost box office receipts, but I think they should just let it go. It has to sting to see those kinds of numbers every week.
"Chicago" should close? WHAT the F...HEY! Maybe you shouldn't be so CLOSE-minded. While "Chicago" may not be everyone's cup of tea, the reason that is has endured 15 years (and going) is that people keep going to see the show. Yes, it does rely on stunt casting. But it's not the only show that does it. "Chicago" does...what it needs to do...to survive in these troubled times. While this formula of having stunt casting elicits criticism (warranted or not), it has enabled "Chicago" to last a long while. Countless upon countless number of shows have come and gone, but "Chicago" survives. Wanting a show to close only demonstrates ill will (which I guess most people would consider...not liking something). This show has employed many, many cast members and theatre personnel for a long time. Since you want a show to close, I guess you are o.k. with people being out of a job. They work hard at their jobs and constantly promote their show all the time. Talk about having a heart of stone. "Chicago" will continue to survive for a long time to come. Every show has its detractors, for sure. Luckily for "Chicago", it has enough appeal and interest among fans (from all over the world), that it has survived as long as it has. Besides..... your opinion... is only... 1. from RC in Austin, Texas... a FAN of Patti LuPone AND Chicago. "That's all I have to say about that."
CHICAGO really should close. It's not like it's selling well enough to justify a move.
The show costs are very low right now. It can certainly afford another move.
I can't think of anything nastier than wishing a show that still sells to close with no reason. I hope they don't think about you the same way at your job.
CHICAGO has survived as long as it has because the producers stunt cast any time they see a dip in the grosses. I'm a fan of the material and this production was a strong one... once upon a time. Now it's only being kept open as a cash cow, but it isn't even doing that. It's merely taking up space that could be used by fresh, new shows.
And honestly, blaxx, if I wasn't pulling my weight at my job, I would expect them to fire me. It's called business, it's not personal. These weekly grosses are numbers. On numbers alone, the show is a mild success. To my mind, mild doesn't merit another transfer, no matter how long a show has been around.

That's still your opinion. In my opinion, there are quite a few shows that have been running just as long that should be closed by now, and way before Chicago.
As I said before, I hope you don't show up to work one day to find out you're taking space that could be handled by fresh, new employees.

Then you must know little about business. If the show was doing so horribly, it would have closed by now. The truth is that they can afford to keep it open, and good for them. Luckily, they don't decide whether their business should cater to "your mind".
