I'm shocked it's selling so well. It's essentially toured every year since 2013. I guess if a Broadway house is available next Nov/Dec, it could return."
The production at the Marquis is so muchbetter than the one that's been touring. Feels like a brand new show."
The current tour is non-equity and has been playing one week runs. It really shouldn't be. Their one week run in Red Bank in November didn't sell. The Basie never gets one week runs of any tour.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

It is a better version of Elf, from the UK, with top notch Bway cast. Not the tired non-equity bus and truck.
Elf has been such a gigantic holiday hit. My goodness. And that Wicked number is absurd. Tons of shows are doing good business right now though. That's nice to see.
A Wonderful World is turning into A Beautiful Noise... holiday and tourist times are bad for it. But then it does better in normal weeks.

Phantom maintained respectable numbers, but nothing crazy and usually always hadavailability. I'd say Lion King, but Wicked's capacity is usually a higher percentage than Lion King."
Lion King has a higher average ticket price than Wicked too. A year ago, Lion King broke the record and had a weekly gross of $4.3 million over 9 shows. I thought that was crazy!
With the Wicked movie pretty much giving free marketing for the Wicked Broadway musical, I can see Wicked maybe even break the $4 million mark this week since it has 9 performances this week.

I wonder how many tickets Sean Astin is selling. He’s literally theonlyreason I want to see Elf."
A majority is probably for Astin, but Grey Henson has a strong following from MEAN GIRLS and SHUCKED (the night I went, the stage door was more noisy for him than Sean). Kalen Allen also has a huge social media following that could be compounding here"
I think y'all are overthinking it. I really think it's just that it's a Christmas show and it's Christmas. Many people like Sean Astin, many people like Grey Henson. Even combined, I doubt they're soley responsible putting up massive numbers in one of Broadway's hardest-to-fill houses. Only Christmas Spirit can do that!

I agree. I think Astin and Henson, though they have their fans, are not the ones responsible for these sales.
Since the musical first did holiday seasons in the early 2010s, it has become a staple of community theaters and I'd also say the movie has become even more iconic. Couple that with a generally well received production and the family crowd and it was the perfect storm of events.
I do think it'll come back in the near future, maybe as soon as next year. But it's not going to be an every year thing.

there is a blackout period through January 5th during which Roundabout subscribers can’t buy tickets. Looks like that backfired given the drop in the gross. Roundabout did let me post date my ticket for this past Saturday night and the orchestra was half empty.

The difference between the two is that ABN was grossing $1 million a week for its first three months. The grosses for ABN didn't start to tumble regularly until Memorial Day Week(end) 2023. AWW hasn't come close to the grosses ABN put up, though I'd guess that AWW is slightly cheaper to run than ABN.

True, I was referring more to how ABN started to do later on. Early on, it was doing very well all weeks. But then it settled into a pattern where it would underperform on tourist/holiday weeks and overperform on other weeks. It was also in a bigger theater than Wonderful World. That being said, I do know WW is on much shakier ground than ABN was for a long time.
