Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 2/19/17

That's actually a better gross than I expected for COME FROM AWAY with just 3 performances. Good to see! Worried already about SIGNIFICANT OTHER. I hope it can find an audience.

Also, SUNSET's numbers are crazy!

I'm very impressed by A Bronx Tale. And I guess everyone's fretting over Sunset selling was unwarranted.

Who would've thought Come From Away would sell this well? Good for them!

The show is still on track to recoup, but the reviews definitely hurt it. The advance was strong, but the word of mouth and reviews quashed that a bit. But even with Blanchett, a three-hour play about sad Russians--based on an obscure, rarely produced work of Chekhov--was always going to be a hard sell. Had Blanchett come to Broadway in a revival of STREETCAR or some similar classic play, it'd be untouchable.

Nice to see how well THE PRICE is doing out of the gate--almost completely sold out for its first few performances.

Also add in Valentine's Day last week. I'm sure that it added a nice little boost to a performance (Tuesday night in February) that's typically a bit on the bleaker side.

I've certainly been doing my part to help CFA. Told people back at the hotel bar how good it was, told the pilot of my airplane back home about it and even gave it a review on Its Facebook page which I've never done for any show. Haven't been this excited about a show since Pippin at A.R.T. I really hope it sees the continued success it deserves.

Agreed but hence why I wonder why its profit this week was $36k less compared to the week before. I'm not losing sleep over it but just curious. Given how Hamilton is sold out for the next several months, I'd imagine its gross would relatively be the same week to week (plus or minus less than $10k)"

No idea about Hamilton, but I suspect for DEH we'll see quite a bit of fluctuation, even when sold out, due to people purchasing at the Belasco prices instead of the Music Box prices, or any other price changes. People are more likely to buy ahead of time for a holiday weekend than they are for a random weekend in Feb.

Belasco has an orchestra, mezz and balcony. Rear Balcony prices were cheaper than Rear Mezz, understandably.

There are myriad reasons why the gross in any given frame might be off from the preceding one, and we are talking about de minimis differences. $48k over 8 performances is $6000 a show. A few extra comps here, a few more premium there, how many house seat entitlements were executed? were any seats out of service? was there a special situation? There is no way that anyone looking in from the outside can rationalize this as if it were some piece of finely tuned machinery. The bottom line is: what difference could a 1% variation make to anyone here or there?
