Vanya and Sonya need to get Weaver and Pierce's names above the title...they could sell this play but no stars are listed on the main advertising.

Please note that I did not say they were "hits", i stated that they have selling power, meaning that they sell out for a period of time despite their critical pans. Mermaid was SRO for its first 6 months and final 3, Addams Family was also SRO through its first summer, and Titanic ran for 2 years. Sales eventually dropped causing the shows to close before recouping but for a while during all of their runs they were SRO equating to the shows having selling power.

I agree that NICE WORK will more than likely close with the end of Matthew's contract. I predicted we wouldn't see NICE WORK much longer - I figured it would be gone by the end of 2013 at the latest, freeing up the Imperial for the new revival of LES MISÉRABLES.
really surprised by Motown's numbers. I wonder if we'll have another Memphis type show with Motown. Great music, interesting selling points, plus a poor book.
As for Nice Work, I still see them bringing in some big name to keep the show going through the summer at least. I'm sure they could find someone to replace Broderick for 2-3 months.
Still happy to see Once grossing solid numbers despite Kazee not being in the show.

How much of a draw is/was Kazee, or any of the cast for that matter? I only ask because I know a lot of people who are fans of the film and want to see it for that reason, and don't particularly know or care who is in it.
Steve Kazee, great as he is in ONCE, isn't selling a single ticket to the show.
^Agreed. People are buying tickets due to word of mouth advertising, oh, and the 9 Tony awards. Once has clearly caught on with the tourist trade and they will carry the show as long as interest holds.
As soon as Matilda is doing 8 shows a week, I'm sure it'll hit the million mark.

If I invest 5 dollars in a business and only get 4 back, I would never say that the show had "selling power despite critical pans". I would say the critical pans put a nice stop to such sells, but kudos for seeing the glass half full.

I imagine there a few shows looking at the Imperial if Nice Work closes in June aside from Les Mis, I could see the producers of Prince of Broadway having interest if they're on track for a fall 2013 although other theatres will likely be available.
Am I correct in recalling that Prince of Broadway is attached to a Shubert house TBD? That would make the Imperial a very attractive fit… Unless they can somehow dislodge Mamma Mia! or Chicago.

It probably depends on how big Prince of Broadway is going to be, it might even go into the Broadhurst after Lucky Guy. Mamma Mia! Is doing good at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if it move to a smaller theatre or closes to make way for Les Mis or Prince of Broadway.
As Cinderella looks so strong, Les Miserables will go into the Imperial.
Prince of Broadway will be the next Rebecca, who reaooly wants to see a revue show of Harold Prince shows?
