Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 3/5/17

Oh, winter.

Ouch, those numbers. Particularly In Transit and On Your Feet!...

It's been a week or two since someone made a comment about Wicked's numbers going down and the show becoming vulnerable.

SIGNIFICANT OTHER is pretty much toast at this point.

Also, I'm confused at SWEAT's numbers. Studio 54 certainly has more than 659 total seats.

I am cringing at those Significant Other numbers. Physically cringing. It is open ended.

And yes, Saigon is doing just fine!

Happy to see Sunset Boulevard maintaining spot in top 5 (with only 7 performances per week)

Miss Saigon is doing well considering it's their first week and only 5 shows. Come From Away seems to be picking up some steam too. Sunset is still maintaining steady grosses



SO, OYF and In Transit I see packing up right after Tony Noms. OYF has run its course. SO I can see perhaps running a bit longer if Gideon or Mendez can maybe pick up Tony Noms or Best Play. In Transit could follow a similar scenario if it received any major nominations.

In Transit's producers are really delusional if they think they're going to get any noms. Especially with the new musicals opening soon.

Can SO really hold on through the noms/ Tonys?

And, under the radar, Bronx Tale continues to rake in the money without notice (except by me every month of so in this weekly thread).

I think it's incredible that Sunset Boulevard is outgrossing Aladdin. Who knew? Unbelievable.

Capacity doesn't mean much... you can always fill seats if you charge low enough prices/give them away... Average ticket price is a better indicator.

One thing I always look at, which is usually more telling than simply looking at the week's gross revenue is the show's average ticket price. DEH's average ticket price has been climbing almost every week, and last week it was $145 and change, second only to Hamilton. It's a pretty astounding number, especially for this time of the year. I guess when the summer tourist season hits it will really go up, though I'm guessing that it's mostly sold out, though I'm sure they will be selling premiums which will keep increasing in price. I wonder how it's selling for the typically slow months of the fall.

There was also an interesting article recently in the Washington Post about the future of the show once Ben Platt leaves. His contract expires in November, but I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't extend, at least through the holiday season. Thoughts? Will the show need to replace him with a known quantity? Anyone have ideas who might be a suitable replacement?
