Ouch for August and reasons to be pretty. Not sure how much it is per week for pretty, but 29% can't be good! At least Norman went up!!

"At least Norman went up!!"

... not by much

It seems the numbers either suck or are pretty good this week!
congrats Hair and WSS!

Norman Conquests was still heavily comped last week for press performances, including opening night. It should start to fare better this week.

Holy crap, REASONS.

Not good. Not good at all.

Ditto NEXT TO NORMAL but not on the same scale as REASONS.

Ouch.

Glad to see 9 to 5's gross go up pretty significantly (even though attendance slipped a bit).

Not looking good for Irena's Vow, reasons to be pretty, August, and Desire Under the Elms.

Unfortunate falls for Next to Normal and Rock of Ages.

Huge dips for Shrek, Guys and Dolls, In the Heights, Avenue Q, Chicago, Mamma Mia, Phantom. Strange, considering they are some of the most recognizable titles on the boards right now.

Nice increases for Mary Stuart, Joe Turner, and God of Carnage.

Not a good week though.

'next to normal' needs to step it up... well the producers that is. Quotes still weren't up this past Saturday. They can be big if they just try.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

It continues to puzzle me that there is not a single quote from any of their reviews around the Booth Theater. You'd think they'd have Brantley's review plastered up outside by now.

How is David Stone, a smart and shrewd producer (see what he did with Wicked for brilliant marketing), so behind the eight ball on this?

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

^^I don't, but he needs to step it up. I'll been plugging the show to my family and they live in NJ/NYC area. In fact, I was home this past weekend and my mom had the TV on. A N2N add came on and I told her that was the show I saw. She watched the spot and simply brushed it off.

It isn't the easiest show to market, but adding in quotes from reviews would help, especially when you've got so many to choose from. If they get Tony Noms like predicted, they should be putting up posters about that as well.

I've been plugging the show like crazy to everyone I know. I don't get how those reviews aren't put onto every ad yet.

I'm glad to see Exit the King doing so well. That show's kind of a tough sell and it's been doing much better than I expected. I wouldn't be surprised if it recouped well before the end of the run, I bet it wasn't that expensive except for the actors.

And no wonder Impressionism announced it's closing. Those are tough numbers.

Ditto on the sentiments for Next to Normal. They really need to promote this show better. Hopefully the Tonys will help it out.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

Triple OUCH for reasons to be pretty. It's a worthy play that should be hyped right now -- I assume budgetary constraints are the reason. It always breaks my heart when a worthwhile show goes under -- even if I'm not crazy about the show (doesn't apply to reasons), there should be room on Broadway for this kind of theatre. So sad.

unfortunate fall for ROA? they were at 93 percent? and probably still made op costs..

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

Exit the King isn't really a tough sell. All you have to say is Rush and Sarandon are in in it. It's one of the only plays that can get away with 30% at tkts on the weekends.

39 steps too a huge dive last week. 22%.

Not a good week at all.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&. "Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

Well of course last week was gonna be bad compared to the previous two because schoools were back in session. I'm actually surprised about how little the Disney shows dropped. I'm sorry to say this, but it looks like reasons to be pretty will be closing soon. I have never seen a shows have such looooow numbers and still be able to run for as long as it has already..

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

If REASONS doesn't get a Tony nod for Best Play, expect it to close immediately.

If it does get a nod, the producers will probably hold out until the Tonys to see if it wins.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/26

EDIT: WannaBe beat me to it.

Any show that didn't get reamed by the critics will stick around until at least the Tony nominations. You'd be surprised how big a bump, albeit short-lived, those can give. After that, if the show doesn't win any and it's pulling in low numbers in the first place, expect to see it gone by the end of the summer (we shall call it Passing Strange Syndrome).

Reasons will stay open until the Tonys because it has a good shot at Best Play.

I hope REASONS wins Best Play.

It deserves it in my eyes and it could REALLY benefit from winning.
