The show that seems like it could go either way is Tootsie. It's doing well in a large theater, making money, boasts good reviews. (My daughter, who isn't in its natural demographic, called it the funniest show she's ever seen.) But it's too easy to get cheap tickets five minutes before the show on a Friday night. And what happens if it doesn't win Best Musical? Does anyone care what won Best Book, or even Best Actor?
There ought to be a decent market for a name brand musical that's actually funny. And if it pulls off the upset over Hadestown, then all bets are off. But if it doesn't, I am very curious how it does after the summer - and even after Moulin Rouge sucks up a lot of attention next month.

Kelly Clarkson has said on several occasions that after the experience of From Justin to Kelly she is not interested in pursuing acting again. So if she does change her mind about that, whether of her own volition or from heavy lobbying by a producer, I would say it's more likely that she would step in to an already running show where she could do a limited engagement, allowing a greater opportunity to line up a role she could see herself being comfortable in and also not be bound to a longer contract if it did turn out to be disastrous.

With a 2-part play, it's hard to get people to buy both parts. My guess is some patrons are skipping part 2. There have also been some discounted tickets on TodayTix.
These are still staggeringly good numbers. It's had a gross potential in the 90% range for 10 weeks of 2019, and we might even see that number drop to the 80% range over the next year."
how could people skip part 2 with the massive cliffhanger ending of part 1?!
No spoilers, but if you don’t want to return to Potter for pt2 after watching Part 1, it must be pretty damn hard to entertain you. Whether you’re a Potter fan or not even. Prices I understand of course. I do know one person who saw part 1 last spring and are seeing part 2 this spring. I’m not sure why, but that’s how they wanted to do it. Possibly more people do this? No idea
Can you buy a seat to just part 1 or just part 2? If so, then the issue is likely:
A student buys a seat to a Saturday matinee part 1, with the plans to watch part 2 some later week when they have more money. The people buying tickets don't want to buy just pt 2 in the Saturday evening performance, so some of those seats go unfilled. Later, when student is ready to watch part 2, the same thing happens but in reverse. They buy just the part 2 ticket, but that leaves a part 1 ticket without a proper pair and those get unused.
