Wow, these are terrible! Especially Hair! This is probably its lowest weekly gross ever. It looks like Next to Normal is barely making its weekly nut, which is somewhere around $230,000, I believe. South Pacific and West Side Story were also very low. I think part of the reason these shows didn't do as well is probably because all of the tourists from memorial day weekend have left, now. These grosses should pick back up in the summer.
Wow, these (and especially AMERICAN IDIOT's) are not good at all. But good for PROMISES PROMISES for not going below the $1MIL mark for 6 weeks already!
"Movies will make you famous; television will make you rich; but theatre will make you good." - Terrence Mann.
American Idiot was empty yesterday afternoon. I'm not surprised by this gross at all.
I am surprised by Fela, which was almost completely full last night, save for ten seats. I really thought it would have a higher percentage than it did.

this is probaly the lowest we'll see these grosses until September. Schools are starting to let out for the summer and I would think these numbers should slowly start to climb.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
American Idiot made US$ $612,380. More than most shows on Broadway. Why is everyone freaking out?
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
-Felicia Finley-
Can't see HAiR sticking around much longer. Do you think they'll try to hold out through the summer and then close? They haven't been above 80% capacity in 9 weeks.
"These rabid fans...possess the acting talent to portray the hooker...Linda Eder..." -The New York Times
School graduations (including colleges/universities as well as high schools in other parts of the country) have been going on since mid-May. I don't think that's it...
I have a friend who works at Telecharge, and he told me that traditionally, the week after Memorial day is one of the weakest weeks in the year. Not sure why, but that undoubtedly explains the pronounced drop almost everywhere.
I guess shows like "Promises, Promises" and "Addams Family" get GREAT word of mouth from audience members and that is what has been making their grosses so strong. Critcs don't really matter. Updated On: 6/7/10 at 04:54 PM
muscle23ftl, Because the theater it is in (St. James) is one of the largest on Broadway and for that theater that is a small amount of money.
For those who thought NEXT TO NORMAL wouldn't have a life outside Broadway, well it's now playing in 4 cities, 9 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages.
American Idiot's weekly nut is around $420k, so they still made almost $200k over that. Yeah, it sucks that their grosses went down 25%, but it seems that almost all the shows had ****ty weeks.
