I’m not sure what you mean? I personally think it would be easy for someone to arrange “inner white girl”, “boundaries”, “memory song”, “a strange loop” for a Jennifer Hudson pop interpretation. And a very creative and talented arranger might be able to do interesting things with the other songs (including medleys). I don’t know if it’ll make any difference though - I guess sometimes there is a specific and limited market for certain shows and no matter what you do, you just can’t make people interested that are not interested. The only thing I can think of that would actually work to save the show come January in my mind is to stunt or star cast. But I’m not even sure who and for what roles.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

No, actually both Chicago and Wicked also perform Mondays.  Also this week The Kite Runner had a performance on Monday.

My comment was not meant to be about Phantom or Mondays in particular,  rather that I have noticed more European over American tourists everywhere I have been this week.   Shows aimed at an audience forvwhom English is not a first language should do well.

When I decided to see something for yesterday's matinee I had no trouble getting a ticket for Into the Woods. There was plenty of choice at every price point - lots of $88 seats in the balcony were available.   Versus my first choice, MJ, which had 2 singles left at premium prices in the whole theater.

Even Music Man has plenty of choices for $200-250, which at that show they don't classify as premium prices.

There are a lot of people from Australia in NYC this week and Spanish speaking people. Not sure where from. I have been giving directions to a lot of them who look confused on street corners.

Just give the world Love.

There must be concern at STRANGE LOOP! I saw to again a few weeks ago and it got a very mixed reaction from the audience. Some people, mostly younger folks, were going nuts, others, no so much.

Can it tour?

I was just thinking that, if it closes in January, it will have run about the same number of performances as ‘Passion’, another Tony best musical that attracted no one beyond my he core Sondheim audience.  I has no interest in seeing it on Broadway, based on feedback from people whose opinions I respected; I finally watched it on PBS and absolutely hated it, and  I love most Sondheim…just a little too (choose your word) for most people.  Admittedly geeky not having seen ASL, but based on people’s opinions, what I have seen of it, etc., I suspect that I would really dislike it…a lot.

What do you suppose you would dislike about A Strange Loop?

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

I have several (5 - 6) friends who see everything (and generally have the same taste) and none liked it…several hated it.  I have not liked the music that I have heard.  From my reading of many reviews, it’s premise just  doesn’t appeal to me.

Re ignoring my reservations and seeing it anyway, as an out-of-towner (Florida and Massachusetts), I generally only get to see 12 - 15 shows on Broadway a season…it just doesn’t make the cut.  Every year, there are shows I don’t get to see that I want to; why use a limited slot for something that doesn’t sound appealing?  Note: this season, I was unable to see The Minutes and Take Me Out, both of which I wanted to see.  I figured that I had seen the original production of TMO and really liked it, so that decision was relatively easy; I rationalized that The Minutes will probably appear in one of the regional theatre companies at some time.  I was also unable to squeeze in Girl from North Country.  I was able to see in my last visit: How I Learned to Drive, POTUS, Harry Potter (my wife wanted to see it more than me), Hangmen, Phantom (only Monday night at 8:00pm option), Tina (again, my wife’s choice), SIX, and a performance at ABT, so It was a pretty good week.
