These are my ratings and thoughts since Broadway and Off Broadway reopened:
*Bad
**Just OK
***Good
****Very Good
*****Excellent
-Is This a Room? *
Interesting story but terrible storytelling. Thankfully it's only 70 minutes long or so. Do not recommend it, unless you like wordy plays with very little action.
-Caroline or Change *
I don't like sad Broadway shows, especially if they don't have good songs and there's no resolution. Also the main character isn't lovable at all. Terrible! I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
-Jagged Little Pill ***
I guess it's a thing now for Broadway to be "woke" and although I'm happy we're evolving as a society, it can be a bit much. But Alanis wrote great songs, so that makes up for the awful book. Great talent of course and some great aspects. I recommend it, but it's a bit long.
-Fairycakes ***
Hilarious cast and I have to say that act 1 was quite boring to me, but then act 2 was completely different and I found it hilariously funny and the songs that the cast sings were beautiful (it's a play with music, but not a musical), but I recommend it. Douglas Carter Beane is always witty.
-The Visitor ****
I wasn't familiar with the story, but the story is completely dated. SPOILER ALERT: unfortunately no one gets arrested for jumping the turnstiles in NYC and also cops can check if you just paid for your ride. So that situation made absolutely no sense and the entire story is a bit silly to me. But some of the numbers were thrilling, especially the number in Union Square. The sets were fantastic and I highly recommend it, even if the story is a bit cringe worthy. David Hyde Pierce was great, not sure why he does musicals though.
-Trevor ****
This was great, great score, great story...it was Love, Simon meets Bye Bye Birdie? Very enjoyable, the kids acting in the show are very talented and very professional. I highly recommend it.
