It was like Woodstock, without the mud and sex. Crowded and sweaty. The Rockettes looked beautiful, and the men were(mostly) in fine voice.
Surprisingly, Tom Wopat fared the best. I recall that he's done a lot of musical theater, and it showed.
Chris Sieber sang a cute ode to Sara... Sara Lee. He proposed doing something naughty to a cinammon roll.
Cheyenne Jackson thought he was at work, since he practically tore his shirt off and humped the microphone.
I left midway when my hopes were dashed. Raul Esparza and Marc Kudisch came out and sat on stools 6' apart. Finally I thought, it's happened. They've worked together for months. They turned and smiled at each other. My blood raced. They're going to declare their feelings through a love song on this summer night.
But it didn't happen. They sang separate love songs to... women! And they sounded terrific, but i knew it was time to leave.
I had a great time, although I am now quite sweaty and in need of a shower! Both because of the humidity and the men! Yummy!
And I LOVED Cheyenne's striptease, I stood up and cheered for him. Fun night!
I thought Cerveris sounded divine singing Kiss of the Spider Woman. Loved Chris too and you could tell he was on a total high being there. How much do you want to bet Cheyenne's striptease doesn't make it on 7pm tv on WCBS?
During the opening number the Rockettes came out to do their thing and Applegate introduces the men. Christina missed her first cue in introducing Marc and Raul and then messed up Cerveris's name. Both didn't matter b/c the lights went out in the middle of the number! The Rockettes, the pros they are, kept on going...and there was still sunlight out to be able to somewhat see/tape. They finish and Christina goes, "weren't they great? They so great that they're going to do it again!" Pretty funny.
AND it didn't rain!
Highlights definitly were:
TOM WOPAT - The man needs to do another musical, he was a devine Julian Marsh!
MARK KUDISH - His first solo was astonishing (not the song) and his duet with Raul sweet.
RAUL ESPARZA - A Growling good time as always
CHRISTOPHER SEIBER - Damn fine voice
CHEYANNE JACKSON - Hunka Hunka YUM!
& MICHAEL CERVERS - But only for his Kiss of the Spider Woman, his first song was wretched!
All the rest were eh...there (and while the rocketts did indeed dazzle and Brian Stokes Mitchell was in fine voice his song was BOOORING! - it was too much for being too hot - Im so sticky now :))
whee, what fun!

I don't live in New York...damn it, no Broadway Under the Stars for me!
Yes, Mario Cantones closing finale of NY, NY was entertaining, but not in such a vocally good way. A few times I almost was closing my eyes and hoping hed hit the notes. But it was a fun version!
Raúl was on FIRE.

"It was like Woodstock, without the mud and sex."
midtowngym, do you work at Chitty? Someone was saying the EXACT SAME THING yesterday about Broadway Under the Stars..
But anyways, I was at Broadway Under the Stars for like a half an hour, handing out NYMF post cards, but it just was NOT worth sitting in that heat for, especially when it's going to be on TV.
How was Victor Garber? What did he sing?

Am I the only one that was a little disappointed? Don't get me wrong, I love the men of Broadway (Raul, Michael & Marc were highlights) but without the women it doesn't feel complete. I wanted Linda Eder, Barbara Cook, Melissa Errico, Bernedette Peters, etc... Oh well, it was fun to be out with hundreds of Broadway fans though!

...oh, and it did rain...
it was rain-ing MEN...Hallelujah!
Victor Garber sang "Real Live Girl" (little me)
The women were definitely missed. I prefer the mix as well...bring on the divas! Next year perhaps (or did they do that already? I forget).
Victor Garber sang "Real Live Girl" from Little Me. He sounded great, but wrong song for that crowd. I heard alot of "Victor Garber sings?!?" around me. haha.
btw - did y'all see the proposal that happened while the first "talking heads" were talking? Sweet. :)

I read the list of people who were going to be performing there, but I think there might have been more.
Who did perform?
Was it worth sweating.
I was there and was hot. I can't take the heat.
I could not do it.
Left before it started.
What proposal????
There was also a country singer there (Billy Cunningham, I think?), which was quite random but he was good.

I got there at 5, did the cattle stampede, and got a pretty good spot on the left side, about even with the cameras.
Soooo hot - I've already taken my shower. I thought it was worth it though, I had a fantastic time. I loved Hunter's performance but I thought all of the men did a fantastic job. Although Cheyenne just made me angry with his striptease. Totally unnecessary - you aren't playing Elvis tonight sweetie.
I took lots of photos, mostly of the tv screens, but I don't think they came out well with it being so dark.
But it didn't rain!!
And who else loved the lights malfunction? That was classic... Christina's "Did you love that? Well you get to see it again!"
I'm glad that kind of thing happens to professionals too...
~Jessica
Jessica- I also did the cattle stampede and was sitting basically under the rope to the left of the cameras. Good view!!
Cheyenne did a strip tease!!!!
Inserts knife into heart.
That man is hot.
Now I am sweating.
UGH!

Ok, I'm glad someone else said it b/c I hated Cheyenne's striptease also. It's a somewhat classy event in that all the performers are dressed to the nines and it's going to be broadcast on local tv...no need to strip. He sounded great otherwise.
While the heads were talking, I started hearing applause from behind me and I turned to see what in the world people were applauding. I thought maybe it was someone 'famous' or something. Instead, I see this girl standing and a guy on his knee putting a ring on her finger. The whole area around me was applauding.
It was my first cattle stampede and while that wasn't that bad, people coming at 7:30, seeing a 1 sq ft patch of grass and planting their ass (and friend's ass to come) there while moving my blanket PISSES ME OFF! You don't fit. Don't sit there. It makes it uncomfortable for everyone. I mentioned to her that I had 3 people that were going to be sitting in "my area" hoping she'd get the hint (I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking it), and she basically looked at me like I had 50 heads.
And let me guess...CBS has the Country Music Awards this year?
I was there with LittleFish and we looked at each other and said why is Cheyenne stripping? There was no point to it. If anything it was unnecessary.
