Heh, fun night. I saw Em and Matt-G and others but no room by them, so somehow at about 7 I just kinda made it through the very front, tad to the right and just plopped down there. I ended up sitting behind a family with a 4-year old girl and a 1 1/2-year old girl. The 4-year old started talking to me and wanted me to sit on their blanket(didn't complain...) offered me food and drinks every minute(refused, didn't feel right and didn't like anyway)...but they were soo cute, the 1-year old was dancing to the songs and we all just had a lot of fun. Nice little moment for me, b/c discounting the Little Mermaid, my first introduction to anything musical theatre is my aunt used to play the Cabaret movie casette soundtrack when she drove me to nursery school when I was 4 and I fell in love with it. So when they played the overture at cabaret, I told the girl I was her age when I first heard this stuff, and it was just a nice moment.
Performances were pretty good. I personally really liked Cheyenne's...then again I am attracted to him. Honestly didn't love Wopat's "Maybe This Time" probably because I'm soo used to Liza's. But yeah, very fun night.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
