I'm coming over to NY next March and have heard so much gossip about all these different shows closing. I'm just wondering whether anyone can confirm the closures of shows for definate so i don't get my hopes up with seeing them. And if anyone one knows of the shows that are filling the boots of the closing shows, that'll be very helpful!!! Ta.
P.S please tell me Spring Awakening isn't closing and that its all a lie i heard?!!?
none of us can confirm that any of these shows are closing, but I wouldn't guess spring awakening would still be open, it might be gone by then. If you want to play it safe, by tickets for wicked, Billy Elliot, The Lion King, Jersey Boys, OHOHOHOHOHOHHO WEST SIDE STORY WILL BE OPEN IN MARCH!!!! Buy tickets for that one
Gypsy closes March 1st. as for Hairspray and Spamalot, I'm not sure we can guarantee they'll close in January like they announced (although my guess is they will). keep your eyes and ears peeled, is all I can say.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

I would suggest keeping an eye out on the board here and the BWW news along with Playbill.com news. I would assume that if you buy tickets in advance and a show closes before you get there, you will get a refund and can choose another show.
bwayfan: well, I'm not sure why. the last day for individual ticket sales for Gypsy is March 1st, and Patti starts her concert tour with Mandy Patinkin March 7th.

I could imagine Spamalot doing fairly decent, in comparison to now, during the holiday season because of tourists. However, I do agree that January 18th makes sense for the closing.

There is no way to guarantee ANYTHING. Some shows have closed with only a few weeks notice. Others have given a date only to extend.....or even cut even shorter.
Given the current economy and sales: I don't think either Hairspray OR Spamalot will extend...but you never know.
Trying to plan that far out is difficult....you just don't know when announcements will happen.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
The ad for Gypsy in the Times theater directory today said something along the lines of "On Sale Through March 1". Given Patti's concert schedule that has to be the closing date... unless the part is recast for some reason.
Spring Awakening is not closing. It's a rumor. It's turning a profit. No producer in their right mind is going to be turning down ANY kind of money right now. Is it making a ton of money? No. But it IS making money.
So much for Spring Awakening not closing! January 18th! this seems to be a re-accuring date for Broadway closure? could 18 be the new number of the devil?
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for 13 and Gypsy still being open. ooh and Shrek, i need to meet Brian D'arcy James, he's my god!
