IMO, as long as folks don't operate under the delusion that these performers are their personal friends, it's okay. It's when they start confusing getting an autograph with "knowing" someone that I question.

I'm dying to meet Ruthie Henshall. I saw her at Stairway to Paradise, but she was running, so I didn't want to stop her. And then at Chicago10 in London she was literally a foot away from greeting the fans at the stagedoor, when the pulled her back to take press photos, and by the time she was done, she had to run to catch her train.
