I've been asked (along with a friend) to do a concert at an Italian Tuscan Villa out on a huge planation here in Virginia in the next few weeks. The lady putting it on said she wanted "Italian Fare", but said she didn't care if it was actually in Italian, in the style of Italian, "That's Amore", etc. She even said "Sing Broadway songs that have to do with Italy". So, the question is...besides "Light in the Piazza", what other Broadway songs have that sense of style and feel? Any suggestions would be great!! These should be both solos and duets. Thanks for the help and ideas.

Isn't "Do I Hear A Waltz?" set in Italy?

"Italian Street Song" from Naughty Marietta
Definitely look at the musical, "Nine." I actually haven't really listened to the score, but there are strong Italian vibes in that show. I especially like "Unusual Way."
"Primma Donna" from Phantom of the Opera
Be Italian from Nine.
Someone Woke Up- Do I Hear A Waltz
Venice- Elegies
Do I Hear a Waltz- Do I Hear A Waltz
Two Gentlemen of Verona- Two Gentlemen of Verona
The Most Happy Fella- The Most Hapy Fella
Sposalizio- The Most Happy Fella
Rosabella- Most Happy Fella
A Call From the Vatican- Nine
Statues and Stories- Light in the Piazza
The Beauty Is- Light in the Piazza
Il Mondo Era Vuoto- LITP
Passegiata- LITP
Be Italian- Nine
Bells of St. Sebastian- Nine
Every Girl in Venice- Nine
How is The Most Happy Fella (the song itself) Italian? Just because an Italian character sings it does not mean it is about Italy. If anything from Most Happy Fella (besides Sposalizio and Abbondanza) is uniquely Italian, it is How Beautiful the Days.
I was going to suggest "The Most Happy Fella."
Don't forget "That's Amore." Maybe that Moonstruck musical will turn up soon.

"When in Rome"
If you do not know the song, it is on Barbra's early album called 'People' which is her best album of all of them (in my excruciatingly humble opinion--but I do own ALL of her albums) and one of the best 60s pop albums period.
The lyric is very clever and combined with a catchy melody, it is a real winner. It is a playful geographical list song.
"..If I write happily
Best Wishes from Napoli,
Don't cable me snappily
To tell me we're through..."
The problem might be finding the music. Try Colony or some such.
It is worth finding and learning not just for this, but for auditions and later performance.
I'm surprised that no one has yet mentioned the greatest opening number in the history of the musical theatre. I am referring, of course, to "Italy" from Ankles Aweigh.
