I'm still wondering-- is this actually a musical? Are the numbers just performance pieces, or "musical" scenes? Trailers tend to hide this (as they do with subtitles in foreign films -- don't wanna scare off the average popcorn-movie fan.)
(Looks like a Chicago/Cabaret rip-off in many shots. MANY.)
Burlesque HD trailer
Wow, some of those shots really are doing everything to look like the Chicago movie.
Looks like an utter turd, whatever it is.
Can't wait to see this! Yes it's obviously influenced by CHICAGO but what's so bad about that.
I think it looks kind of cool. Maybe it will get a musical treatment if its successful!
I agree it looks cool, not necessarily good, it does look a bit campy, but it most certainly looks fun
I think it's more of a Cabaret style musical, as opposed to one where people break out into song, but I could be wrong.
Does Cher sing in this at all??
It's not a book musical.
It's as much of a musical in the sense that the SISTER ACT movie was a musical. Or FAME. Probably best labeled "movie with music."

I'm pretty sure Cher will be singing in this.
I'm excited. I think it looks fun
Cher mentions that she sings in the movie in this interview (and she says she's never sung in a movie before):

Apparently she's scrubbed Good Times from her memory:

I'm amazed at how good Cher looks. Not back to her "real" self, but sooo much better than what I'd seen the last few years. Seems like she and Nicole Kidman have both laid off the 'tox and are both starting to look like themselves again. (still touched-up, but so much better than in the recent past)
I think Diane Warren wrote a song for Cher in this, and Christina co-wrote at least one of her own.
What I found weird was that the bartender is apparently Christina's love interest...my first thought seeing the trailer was, "Oh! She's got a sassy gay bartender friend!"
Oh, here it is, from Wikipedia:
"Singer-songwriter Sia Furler has worked with Aguilera on a song for the film. Record producer Danja has also been working on songs for the film. Cher has recorded 2 tracks for the album, Cher's main song, the power ballad "You Haven't Seen The Last of Me", was written by Diane Warren.[11] Tricky Stewart has announced that he worked on the production of the songs.[12] Songwriter Claude Kelly confirmed he co-wrote three songs for the movie.[13]"
Ugh
I like how its trying to be Chicago, Nine, and Cabaret rolled into one with some extra glitter, but this story has been done a million times and is just a run-of-the-mill small-town-girl-gets-stardom-and-lets-it-go-to-her-head-and-loses-it-all story. Spare me.
And the award for gayest film ever goes to... It's like if Chicago, Cabaret, and Showgirls had a love child.

While I'm kind of interested in this (if only for Cher,) it just seems like a repackaged "Coyote Ugly." From the small town girl who has the talent to make it, to the bar tending angle, to the sassy/ hard-ass boss...
This appears to be exactly like Showgirls.
A small town girl comes to the big city and supplants a dark, troubled leading lady (the Kristen Bell character) at a struggling club, reinvigorating it and launching her own career in the process. Inevitably, the lowly bar tender who helped encourage her at the beginning becomes her boyfriend, but she's forced to choose between him and a wealthy, established man (the Eric Dane character) promising to take her far. She'll lose sight of herself along the way, probably also screwing over Cher's character for a bigger opportunity, but by the end, she'll come back and it'll all work out.
The production values sure look fantastic, though.
I kept thinking "Showgirls" too. Ya know, minus the shaved hoohahs.
Who cares? It is gonna be sooooooooooo EPIC. The costumes, the cast, the crap-tastic dialogue! I think the trailer should already sky rocket this movie to epic cult-classic status...
I'm making room for the DVD already on my shelf!

I think you're taking it too seriously. Nobody's trying to win an Oscar with this movie, except maybe for Best Song or Best Costumes.
Cher actually sang a bit in "Tea with Mussolini" if I am not mistaken.
I'm optimistic. Hope this isn't the next "Showgirls."
When I was a kid my friends and I would go to the 7/11 and make a suicide drink...a mixture of all flavors from the fountain machine. Even though it was gross the sugar was incentive enough to drink it down. I'm in my 30s now and I don't have the stomach for that kind of crazy.
That's what this movie reminds me of. A little of Moulin Rouge, Showgirls, Cabaret, All That Jazz, Chicago. I am sure someone will like it. Thankfully, there is always the chance for them to grow out of it. In this analogy Cher is the sugar. Tempting, but no thank you.
Even if it is a train wreck, I'm in. I still love watching some Showgirls every now and then (you have to admit that it has some great and quotable lines)...and this looks like it could quite possibly be a softer version of that!
Sure, it's not original, the story line has been done before, but I'm really interested to see this movie!
