I just found out that as our fall musical next year we are doing "Bye Bye Birdie." I was wondering what the cast requirements or where I can find them on the internet. Thanks for your help!!
I used to LOVE this show because it was the first time I ever wanted to be on stage with the cast... and then I did it..... Cast requirement wise there are MANY MANY roles for people of all ages and abilities. The main cast is the MacAfees (Mr. & Mrs. MacAfee, Kim, and Randolph -- Kim is considered a female principal), Rosie, and Albert who all sing. Then there are the smaller speaking/singing roles of Ursula, Hugo, Alice, Helen, Nancy, Suzie, Conrad Birdie (An Elvis-type character), Deborah Sue, Margie, The Townsperson Sextet, Maude Quartet, Mrs Peterson (depending on which version you are doing). Then there are the reporters who have some miscellaneous dialogues, the teen ensemble which sings and dances to "Got A Lot Of Livin'", and the adult ensemble who sings "Kids". Kim's a triple threat, Conrad has to be swoonable, Hugo has to be a complete dork, Rosie has to be hispanic and sexy, Albert has to be sort of a pushover (Dick Van Dyke played this role in the movie). There is an opportunity to feature dancers in "Put on A Happy Face" which is usually tap. I'm pretty sure that's all... any other questions feel free to PM me!

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell

"But I relish every brillant inspired moment. This is who I'm determined to be- an actor/singer/dancer-no, I take that back, this is who I am. These people are my tribe, my destiny. I know it.

Omg, I just did this show, I was Penelope Anne. The telephone hour is fun at first, but I had to be all the way on the top top of the structure thing! And it was all splintery and rusty and I was like 50 ft in the air over the audience. It was so scary, and we had to go down the ladder really fast in the dark, and everyone tried to go at once. Good luck though, have fun! :)
Ways to annoy people:
Arrive at a meeting late, say you're sorry, but you didn't have time for lunch, and you're going to be nibbling during the meeting. Then eat raw potatoes.
Ask people what gender they are,or
Disagree strongly with everything anybody says:)
AHAHAHAHA!! No way can our school pull this off! We have... oh, I'd say, about 5 people with talent. Everyone else in the musicals just stand there looking bored... we're screwed...
I'm doing this show friday and saturday i'm rosie i have rehersal at 5 today, to about 9ish tech week lovin' every minute of it, ive always wanted to be in a musical (im obviously a big bway fan, we all are) i can help if you have any questions it was weird, i actually went in there and sang a completely soprano-ish song "think of me" from phantom which i probly shouldnt have done..but i did anyway! and got a mezzo/alto role psh whatever lol
"No two shows are alike in the making. Each show is a living
piece of your life in a small unreal world with its own character
and integrity; its own new set of memorable experiences and
incredible happenings. You begin to love and adapt to its strangeness.
Dreams harden into substance. Values come into focus. You wish
it would never end. The dream world vanishes like mist before a
rising sun; part of you vanishes with it. And back you land in the
real world with a thud- fogged, uneasy, jittery, difficult to get
along with. There is only one cure. A new show. A new, small
unreal world; new visions, experiences, incredible happenings.
Again you love it, adapt to it, wish it would never end.
But end it does. Another part of you vanishes.
That's show business."-Anonymous
