CBS This Morning-Shuffle Along

Did anyone watch the piece about it? It made me really want to buy tickets as soon as possible.

Watched it and really enjoyed it. Was a bit confused when the reporter doing the piece said rehearsals start next month but it appeared that we were seeing rehearsals. Evidentally they are going to follow the show until it opens. Love George C Wolfe.

The rehearsals shown were for the lab which happened a few weeks go. Broadway rehearsals start in January.

I'm looking forward to seeing this In May. I have a hunch that Shuffle Along will be influenced by Hamilton and feature similarly kinetic choreography. And scatting, which would be period-correct rapping, in a way.

CBS This Morning-Shuffle Along

I do think this is the one show that has the potential to make this a tighter Tony race than originally expected.

Really? Why? Is "Hamilton" Jesus? Will every show produced after Hamilton have come from its vagina? Did you listen to the history of Shuffle? It was the first show written, directed, produced, starring Black ppl on Broadway. It was the first time 2 black people sang a love song to each other on a Broadway stage. That's freaking amazing!!! It's a history maker in its own right - Hamilton exists BECAUSE of Shuffle Along. "Scatting is period-correct rapping"????? Please have 3 seats.

I saw the piece this morning also, and immediately thought, this is going to be a HUGE HIT!

We don't even know yet if it will be eligible as a new musical or a revival yet.

Actually, now that I think about it I seem to remember someone posting that it will be considered a revival.

They are billing it as a revival, but that won't be official until the Tony Administration committee deems it so. That meeting will happen in April so we're several months away from having a definitive answer.

It seems the producers will push for a revival designation, presumably so they won't compete against Hamilton. We'll see if the Tony Committee agrees with them, or will repeat what they did with One Man, Two Guvnors, which tried the same tactic only to see if backfire when they were considered a New Play and left out of the nominations months later (may or may not have been related to some questionable tactics on the producer's part that upset a lot of people in the American Theatre Wing.) I think the Shuffle Along case is much better than that of One Man, Two Guvnors to be a revival.

Oh no!!! I forgot to watch. Does anyone have a link for the broadcast?

Blast!

I am super excited for this. After seeing Joshua Henry in Violet I swore I'd see everything he does and I adore Audra. Savion is just a crazy bonus. I wish he was in it. So much talent. Can't wait.

Ahh...I totally forgot about that. For some reason, this revision just feels more like a "new" musical (a la Crazy for You, sorta). It's certainly a more sensible reply than:

"Really? Why? Is "Hamilton" Jesus? Will every show produced after Hamilton have come from its vagina?"

WTF was that all about? Did I in any way insinuate or imply that Shuffle Along was unimportant or irrelevant? Hamilton doesn't have a vagina and neither did Jesus. What are you even talking about?

It was the first show written, directed, produced, starring Black ppl on Broadway. It was the first time 2 black people sang a love song to each other on a Broadway stage. That's freaking amazing!!! It's a history maker in its own right - Hamilton exists BECAUSE of Shuffle Along.

Did anyone say otherwise? Should the producers close Hamilton and apologize for opening a surprise runaway hit because it's not Shuffle Along? I'm just trying to figure out why the weird overreaction.

LOLOL!

My computer had a stroke and my reply appeared on your message and not the one it was intended for. That was not intended for you - sorry to get you turned up, but it was a mistake.

This behind-the-scenes make me want to see this show so bad. Audra McDonald, Billy Porter and Brian Stokes Mitchell all on one stage and all TAP-DANCING??? This looks awesome.

I have high hopes for this show & I think it'll be named a revival. With these names & the little amount we saw, HAMILTON might have some competition in the actor categories.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
