She should have been nominated so they would have upped the number of women in that particular category to five, allowing the Best Lead Actor in a Musical to up the number as well, so Tveit, Radcliff or Walker to have had a chance. I'm sorry, what? Best Lead Actor in a Musical did have five nominees.
The number of nominees isn't decided by the nominating committee based on who they feel like snubbing. It's in the Tony rules that if a category has less than a certain number of eligible people or shows (8, I believe) then the category will be limited to four nominees. There were only seven women eligible for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, so they nominated four.
And there's nothing that says the Lead Actor and Lead Actress have to have the same number of nominees, since, as I said already, there were five Lead Actor nominees this year.
