This may have been discussed early...but why wasn't she nominated?

"Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" closed before I got a chance to see it, but I do have the CD.
She obviously the lead, and the Tony Awards have nominated her twice before. Why not just make her a ballot filler...if she was that unworthy of a nomination?

I hear lots of unfavorable buzz about Beth Leavel...and all the clips of the show just show a 1960's Black Girl Group...not her.

She may have been the lead character but her role was one of the less-showy ones in the musical. Her character wasn't all that interesting compared to the others. Her songs also have more resonance listening to them in a cast album. However, on stage, since she had most of the ballads, they seemed to slow things down.

She should have been nominated so they would have upped the number of women in that particular category to five, allowing the Best Lead Actor in a Musical to up the number as well, so Tveit, Radcliff or Walker to have had a chance.

ljay, I know. I saw the show enough times to see how empty the audience was. But she did officially say a few times that it couldn't extend because she had another commitment to a show coming to Broadway. That show was WotV.

I'm sorry, what? Best Lead Actor in a Musical did have five nominees.

The number of nominees isn't decided by the nominating committee based on who they feel like snubbing. It's in the Tony rules that if a category has less than a certain number of eligible people or shows (8, I believe) then the category will be limited to four nominees. There were only seven women eligible for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, so they nominated four.

And there's nothing that says the Lead Actor and Lead Actress have to have the same number of nominees, since, as I said already, there were five Lead Actor nominees this year.

Sherie's part was poorly written. She was the lead who bled into the background. It's not her fault. She also got the worst songs. She did the best she could. She was playing a depressed woman pining for a married man. Not exactly sympathetic.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal "I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

She wasn't very good, but it wasn't her fault. She was given most of the ballads in the score, which slowed things down for her, and the character was not sympathetic in any way.

A lot of the score for Women on the Verge holds up much better on CD than it did in the theater...I really like "Island" on the recording but it bored me to tears when I saw the show.

I love her and normally find her a standout, but she blended into the background in Women on the Verge. Patti and Laura definitely made more of an impression than she did.

I saw Sherie in the role 6x, and I really think she got better towards the end of the short run. She had two of the best songs in the score - Lovesick and Island. I did see her understudy De'Adre Aziza once, and she was pretty phenomenal, completely made the role her own. But this is all just my opinion!

She made no friends during the run of that show. Notice how Laura and Patti are always chumming around together and they never mention her? There's a reason for that -- she apparently became quite a pain in the ass to deal with.
