Cate Blanchett to make broadway debut in Chekov adaptation THE PRESENT

What a terribly worded press release. I'm sure they mean next winter, right? I mean it says early winter 2016. Aren't we already past early winter? Will it be starting after December 21st but before NYE so it can be actually winter 2016?

The BWW article says winter but the Broadway.com article (at least now) says fall. Obviously it's not this season, Blanchett's slate is pretty full.

First we get Bette Midler in Dolly and now this? I'm not gonna know what to do with myself next season. Love Blanchett's continued commitment to her stage careet, this is a must see.

Is there any way to say "you're a ****ing idiot" nicely?

Cate and her husband have headed the same company *together* for over 5 (10?) years now. She has come to New York and DC throughout that period performing mostly classical pieces that she essayed in Sydney (I've been incredibly fortunate to see each performance). She and her husband have passed on creative control of the company, now have the time to work outside of Sydney and Cate's movie schedule, and they are together bringing to Broadway a work that she has received acolades for. Oh ya, and she'll finally be eligible for a Tony, and could quite conceivably win.

But ya, it must be about her husband.

Sorry, I wanted to write a positive comment once I saw this thred, but then I saw PD's obnoxious comment and got distracted.

That said: can't wait to see Cate again on stage! Ideally in a small house like the Booth!

No, but you guys don't get it. This whole thing is for her husband. Obviously he is a struggling, frustrated playwright who got his two-time Oscar winning wife to commit to the infamously strict, intense schedule and work associated with a Broadway show just to get his big break. That makes so much sense, logic prevails.

you're taking it to one very big extreme but there is NO DOUBT that her husband was a factor in the decision. probably not the primarily motivating one but it's foolish to completely ignore that as a factor. he is her husband. if she values him and their marriage, it not out of the realm of possibility to be at least partially motivated by that. don't be so cynical

Cate Blanchett is making her Broadway debut and it's the role her marriage played in making it happen that's being discussed?

Seriously?

In fairness, though it is her Broadway debut, she's been such a fixture in New York theater over the last decade, that it is her Broadway debut doesn't feel all that novel. However, any opportunity to see Cate on stag is cause for celebration!

This is absolutely outstanding news. I know she was in another production in NYC ('The Maids'Cate Blanchett to make broadway debut in Chekov adaptation THE PRESENT. I am assuming that was off-broadway? Anyways...so stoked to see her perform live. I have said for many years that besides Meryl Streep, Blanchett is the best living actress!
