She sings 3 songs. If she can manage Diana, I think she can manage Grizabella.

Thanks, TF4. I was just about to say the exact same thing. Grizabella is a walk in the park compared to Diana Goodman. Mind you, I don't have any desire to see Alice Ripley dress up as a cat. I'd prefer to see her continue playing dramatically interesting characters.

mmm I love talking about Cats being revived. Hilarious, I mean really it is the show that should never be revived. or at least wait 20 years. It's only been off the Broadway for 10 years.
If it was revived next season would I see it? In a heartbeat. ha

I actually would, but again, it would have to be a full blown, theatre enveloping production, not just a touring scale with a few strings of lights splattered in the theatre.
Plus a kick a** cast and I would love that.

This seems to be one of those shows that shouldn't be revived for a very long time. And when they do revive it, they will either have to make it exactly the same, or go a completely new direction withe costumes and choreography.
That said, I have a difficult time naming people who I would want in it.

Some things that would set it apart from the original and make it a great revival:
1) Set it in space
2) Make them all LaserCats
3) Give it a hidden message about Obama Death Panels
4) Have the cats all be pregnant and give birth onstage during intermission
5) Sit Judi Dench dressed as a baby on a highchair suspended above the stage and throw rattles at the cats as the shows new finale, while the lasercats try to shoot her.
6) Have Pac Man & Mrs. Pac Man chasing ghosts in the background while the Cats are dancing

Posted: 4/13/10 at 8:37pmif this, the show responsible for the collapse of the musical theatre as an art form is ever revived, i will legitimately cry for hours.

Posted: 4/13/10 at 8:38pmI've always wanted to stage Cats as a concert reading, with James Earl Jones reading the stage directions. Imagine his voice saying, "And then the whore-cat Grizabella steps onto the magical tire, which ascends to heaven."
