Thrilling!
(Yet I would still like to see it in print by a reliable news source before getting too excited.)

Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:04pmCelia is a great choice for the role, although she wouldn't be my first choice. I'm excited, but as others have said, I'll wait until it's confirmed before I go through the roof. I have tickets for the first preview and I cannot wait.

"BJH: but she just doesn't seem right for the part"
After seeing her performance in Bernarda Alba, I do not doubt her acting abilities.
When do they start rehearsals?
Sorry about the confusion.

re: Celia is Eponine#30
Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:21pmCelia wasn't in Bernarda Alba to my knowledge. She was and still is in Spelling Bee during Bernarda's run.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:38pmDave, he's talking about Daphne...though it took me a minute to realize.
re: Celia is Eponine#32
Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:39pmI think WickedGeek's comment was in response to mine about Daphne Rubin-Vega. I am not talking about her acting abilities though, I am thinking singing voice. She is very raspy and Fantine doesn't really come across to me like that. But, I am not judging, just making an observation.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:42pmi definitely predicted this a couple months ago in a thread i started about celia possibly playing eponine... and barely anyone responded.

re: Celia is Eponine#35
Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:45pmIs she leaving Spelling Bee or just taking a leave of absence.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 10:49pmThat's awesome. Just another reason to see Les Mis - besides Norm Lewis' amazingness.

That makes more sense now. Haha.

Posted: 8/25/06 at 11:44pmI had the opportunity to meet her this spring when she gave a talk at my college. And I didn't go! It was a small talk too. (Eponine's my favorite character; this is why I'm kicking myself now).

If this is true, I cannot wait!
I really like her, and I think she would just make the show!
re: Celia is Eponine#42
Posted: 8/26/06 at 12:00amI can also confirm that Celia is indeed leaving Spelling Bee to do Les Miserables. Heard it from a very reliable source.

Who are these reliable sources, just wondering?
Link?
re: Celia is Eponine#44
Posted: 8/26/06 at 2:09amWell, Celia signed on for another year in Bee, so I'm guessing she's just taking a leave of absence.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 2:31amI think Daphne will be a great Fantine, I actually think her voice will fit the role.
re: Celia is Eponine#46
Posted: 8/26/06 at 2:49amIn regard to a "new" cast recording of the show, with this revival cast...who knows, but it seems likely since the show is going to have completely new orchestrations, by a new orchestrator. The show is going to sound quite different from what we know of the show now. The same songs, etc., but for those who don't know what that means, new orchestrations will make the score sound new in a lot of ways. I have mixed feelings, I am rather fond of the original orchestrations. The make Les Miz sound like.....er, Les Miz...lol. Oh well, we'll just all have to wait and see.

Posted: 8/26/06 at 10:35amAm I the only person who doesn't like her voice and finds this kinda disappointing?
re: Celia is Eponine#48
Posted: 8/26/06 at 10:43amI hope it gets recording, and I'm pretty sure it will. It has a very well respected cast in the Broadway community and with all the changes, people will buy it.

re: Celia is Eponine#49
Posted: 8/26/06 at 10:49amI think Ruben-Vega's voice is very raw, very rough, very unglorified and untrained yet still possessing a certain beauty and vulnerability. This fits the character of Fantine perfectly and I think this entire cast is being handpicked for their emotional acting as well as singing. Norm Lewis, Gemingiani (sp?) and Keenan Bolger all have wonderfully expressive voices and those are just the cast members I can remember being in the revival off the top of my head.
