Chip Zien as Mysterious Man is the sweetest thing ever. Plus, he's so freaking awesome. I am likely to lose it during "No More."

And I LOVE the idea of Sarah Stiles as Little Red.

Stiles does look too old, but she could be fine depending what version of herself shows up. Sometimes I've found her hilarious and other times incredibly annoying.

Red needs to be a childwoman, otherwise, as has been pointed out here, this turns into a pedophilia musical. Zien's casting is choice schmaltz in the best possible way.

I am even more excited about this revival now. I always enjoyed Zien on the televised version and I also like listening to Stiles on the 'Vanities' Cast Recording.

Little Red took the longest for the them to cast, so they must have seen something in Stiles. She was what was holding up the final casting announcement.

When Little Red is cast with a prepubescent actress, you can't then explore the dark, sexual undercurrents in I KNOW THINGS NOW. When it's cast with a slightly older actress (I believe Danielle Ferland was 16/17 when she played the role), it becomes easier for an audience's mind to go there.

CurtainPullDowner Little Red has always been somewhat pedophilic. It was told to children to teach them the dangers of talking to strangers. I took a class in college that focused on fairy tales and what they were "really" about. This is one of the ones I remember the most, probably because it didn't feel like too far of a leap.

<--Marks calendar for a camp-out day on the 23rd. Little Red won't make it or break it anyway. With the rest of the cast assembled, even if Stiles isn't amazing (which she very well may be), this should be a great production!

This production also plays up the unsubtle sexual undertones of the Little Red story.

Thank you SonofRobbie, I'd only add that the dark undercurrents of Hello Little Girl are also out of bounds with a prepubescent Red. There is no getting over that carnality has a double meaning in the Wolf/Red narrative.

I was half kidding about Little Red.
The original Tale was a cautionary one of course. But it's a real wolf (well, a talking one) but a hungry wolf and a little girl. Unless we're talking beastiality that's the real story.
You (and Freud) can sexualize anything; Jack and Jill went up a hill? What's up with that?
Sondheim's version is obviously about a girl and her sexual awakening, but even though the Wolf uses his charms, cunning and creepy come-ons to seduce Red, but still he wants to have her for Dinner, not take her to dinner (and maybe dancing).
Stiles will get the comedy but I like Red with a little more meat on her bones, making her prime.

Now Jack and the Giantress' Giant Breast is a different story.

Even in the last revival, Little Red's costume changed from innocent little girl in Act 1 to a somnwewhat slutty, young Madonna-wannabe tween in Act 2.
