According to an article by Lea Salonga, that was published on the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the Asian Tour of Cinderella will have a cast recording.

I am just hoping that it will not mirror the other Cast Recordings made in Manila that only contains few songs from the score.

Wonderful news. It's been over forty years since this score has been recorded (and released) and it will be nice to have a recording with "The Sweetest Sounds", "Loneliness of Evening" and "There's Music in You". It better be good!

Check the songlist for this production before you get too excited. Some Richard Rogers songs (like "The Sweetest Sounds" from No Strings) and/or R&H songs were added to the ABC TV movie that were not part of the original Cinderella recording.

Posted: 7/10/08 at 3:40pmIt's a 9-month Asian tour, so if there will be any US production, it will probably start sometime April or May 2009.

The most bizarre addition to that ABC/Brandy version of Cinderella was taking FALLING IN LOVE WITH LOVE from THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE and assigning it to Bernadette Peters. WTF was that about?
As long as this recording contains the proper songs such as TEN MINUTES AGO, I'll be happy.
Interesting commentary from Lea Salonga herself on belters, BTW.

Agree. I actually liked the way that THE SWEETEST SOUNDS was used in the film and sung by Brandy and Paolo Montalban. More Paolo, of course, since I hate Brandy's voice.

I did. They're including "The Sweetest Sounds", "Loneliness of Evening", "Boys and Girls Like You and Me" and "There's Music in You". Take a look...

Posted: 7/10/08 at 6:45pmI agree that "Falling in Love With Love" and "There's Music in You" were somewhat out of place, but obviously that's going to happen when you take a song from one show and put it into another. I do, however, adore "The Sweetest Sounds" and I think it works really well within it's given context in Cinderella. I think the biggest issue that these songs solve is to give the show an actual opening and closing number. Before that the finale was either instrumental or a tacked on reprise and "There's Music in You", while lyrically not providing very much, works wonderfully as an actual finale. wildcard - There was an official announcement of a US mounting by BAE, the producers of the Cinderella tour. Unfortunately, no details were divulged like dates and cast.
It's great news that there's an earlier date for the release of the recording. I hope it is easily accessible to the U.S. market.

Okay, someone please help me here. I could swear that I read somewhere that some of Cinderella's songs in this production will be transposed, and that the key changes were made because according to a quote from Lea Salonga, Salonga says she cannot sing like Julie Andrews or something to that effect.
Um, what am I missing here? I don't recall the score having anything extremely high for Cinderella to sing. Also, why would there be a need for transposing the keys of Cinderella's songs given that Salonga can sing like a legit soprano (see, for example, the tracks in Daniel Rodriguez's IN THE PRESENCE where Salonga sings PANIS ANGELICUS and ALW's PIE JESU as duets with Rodriguez).
I don't get it...

The Broadway Asia run just started last July 29. I caught the show yesterday and Lea is amazing as Cinderella. Her voice is just crystal clear and her portrayal is somewhere between Brandy's "sweet and frail maiden" and Julie Andrews' sheer elegance. She's frail enough when needed and stunning when called for. Vocals are the best I've heard for any Cinderella.
Got the album at the theater. They seem to run out of it fast, though! I have a feeling it's going to be a collector's item soon after the run. It's being distributed by Lakeshore Records. There are some enterprising folk selling copies on EBAY already.
Here's the tracklisting:
1. Overture/The Sweetest Sounds
2. The Prince is Giving a Ball
3. In My Own Little Corner
4. You Majesties
5. Loneliness of Evening
6. Boys and Girls Like You and Me
7. Impossible / It's Possible
8. Waltz For a Ball
9. Ten Minutes Ago
10. Stepsister's Lament
11. Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful
12. Impossible (Reprise)
13. When You're Driving Through the Moonlight
14. A Lovely Night
15. There's Music In You
16. Finale
From what I've heard so far, there seems to be no change in key. I'll compare the three soundtracks again.
I'll post links to some of my streaming audio sometime

Thanks for that!
I didn't know there was a reprise of "Impossible?" I wonder how that sounds like.
I think they should have also added "Falling In Love With Love" for the Stepmother to sing. It gives the audience a chance to know more about her and her cynical views on love.
For "The Sweetest Sounds," did they have Cinderella and Prince Christopher singing the song in the town square like they did in the 1997 film version? Was the longer version of "Stepsisters' Lament" used? How was "There's Music In You" staged?
Thanks!
