She was at the show tonight -- it was utter pandemonium for ten minutes.
Did you attend the show Margo?

Yep. I'll write a review either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how I feel.
Bottom line -- this is going to be a HUGE hit.
Thank you Margo. That is great to hear. No rush for another one of your classic reviews. :)
I was there tonight! This show is brilliant. LaChanze will sweep that Tony up from Patti LuPone. We're also talking Best Musical, Score, Book, and Featured Actress. The toss-ups between Sweeney and Purple will be Direction and Orchestrations. This is such a gorgeous show. I can't believe there is no rush, no standing room, no nothing. But however you can, get tickets now, 'cause they're going to be impossible to get after the reviews come out.

Obviously, with Winfrey's presence in the house, the audience's response was atypical, God knoweth why.

i was there tonight as well. totally agree with margo...this is going to be a hit! the audience went crazy when oprah walked in. tons of energy from the cast and the audience tonight. wonderful show. lachanze is amazing. will definitely go back and see it again.
WOW, this just makes it more exciting. I can not wait until I come to NYC in December to see it. Already got my tickets. Was the show sold out tonight?
i was in the mezz and from what i could see it was completely sold out.
Are there any seats that would have an obstructed view? I have tickets for third row center is that too close or will I be able to see everything with no problems?
third row center is probably never an obstructed view. those are fabulous seats.
i got the $26 seats in the last row of the mezz. the theater is way too big. i'd recommend to any of you thinking about getting those seats to just use a discount code and sit in the orchestra. you'll enjoy the show more. i will definitely be going back and sitting in orchestra seats.
So is the show going to be a huge hit because of word of mouth within the black community (the reason THE WIZ fought off bad reviews) or is it because the show is really that good? Everyone I talk to still maintains the show is a mess, but that doesn't mean it won't be huge!
i'd say it will be a hit due to good word of mouth, not due to the quality of the show. it was refreshing to see a good show compared to the horrible flops so far this season (Thunderbird, Lennon, In My Life) but the show does need some work. Excellent performances all around...it just needs some tightening up. That Africa scene in the beginning of Act 2 needs to be cut in half if possible. I will have a better assessment of the show once I see it again from a much better seat.
Interesting Trace. Will critics like it? Or is this the next BLOOD BROTHERS
Dang, forget Color Purple, Terry McMillan confronts her gay husband on Wednesday! Shoot.

Your comment feels racist to me and I find it offensive. Before you start deciding that African American audiences lack the ability to accurately assess the quality level
of a Broadway musical and hence, spread the word, perhaps you should see the show for yourself... rather than relying on "what everyone you talk to" says. This is a great piece of musical theater, with a sensational cast and a wonderful story.
honestly, it's too soon to tell if the critics will like it. i hope the creative team takes suggestions and tightens it up because it has great potential to be brilliant theater.

IML is not yet a flop as it has not yet closed.
Even so, if it makes it to touring, regional status - it can't be considered a flop.
A critical flop? Not quite as scathing as Lennon and Thunderbird.
This show is going to be a huge hit, no doubt. It's already almost completely sold-out on weekends through December. I'm going in a week and a half and I absolutely cannot wait.

My comments Musiclover are not meant to be racist. But the simple truth is that black audiences largely attend and support black themed projects -- this is true of all mediums: film, television and theatre.
THE WIZ was a flop out of town and received mixed to negative reviews in NYC. But the show was able to rally because of tremendous support within the black community. Of course the word of mouth spread to white audiences as well of audiences of all colors == but the fact remains that it was really the strong support of black audiences that made that show a hit.
This isn't about quality. It's about marketing.

I do think it is going to be a hit as everyone in the audience seems to be eating it up. Personally, I think the critics are going to tear it apart unless major changes are made to the book and score. And as far as performance tony's are concerned, I don't think the material allows people to give tony worthy performances. I usually love LaChanze but she didn't do anything for me in this show...mostly because her character didn't do anything for me. I DO think it will sell tickets, though.
I'm so excited for Margo's review!!!!!!!!!
AHHHH! Re-read what everyone had to say about it on here and Im SOOOOO happy for this show! God, I hope it gets good reviews.
