Get the German one.
It's like listening to CABARET and COMPANY at the same time, right?
And that is right up my alley.
LuvtheEmcee - how does one get the Brazilian version?
You get on my good side.
Nah, kidding. I'm assuming you *can* buy it, but someone gave it to me. Check your PM's.
The Brazillian recording is great! It's hard to find though, I got a copy from a friend. I can't stand the '96 London revival, Adrian Lester's voice really bothers me. I've never heard the German one though.
He sounds like Kermit the Frog. The Brazilian Bobby has a pretty voice, though.

I'm kind of obsessed with German cast recordings, I'd love to be able to find one for Company. Portugeuse sounds like a very likable language for Company, too.
I admittedly haven't bothered with any of the revivals. I'm a bit bias towards this revival, as it's the only one I've seen. On the previous revival recordings, I always figured there'd be something that wouldn't work for me, and would force me to listen selectively like I do with the OCR.
He sounds like Kermit the Frog.
That is exactly what I said out loud the first time I heard it!
My favorite Bobby didn't get a cast album, but of the released CDs my fave would be Boyd Gaines, though that may change after I listen to Raúl's version a few times.
The '96 London revival features some pretty terrible singing all-around, but I thought that Lester was a fantastic Bobby in every sense but the vocals -- which, unfortunately, are painful. It literally is like listening to Kermit the Frog singing Being Alive.
I'd like to hear it in German. I heard AIDA in German once, and it was surprisingly kind of beautiful.
Doyle's production is the only one I've seen, too, and I also have a huge bias toward it. I picked up the original before seeing it to famliarize myself with the score prior to taking the trip, after being confused by Sweeney when I saw it and was not familiar with the score. Of course, Company is, IMO, much less confusing than Sweeney, but I thought it could only help. I was pretty young when the other revival happened, so I didn't see it. There are songs on each one of the recordings that I particularly like, but I rarely listen to them all the way through. I actually don't like Boyd Gaines all that much. Raúl's Being Alive is the only one of actors who have played Bobby that I've been exposed that I listen to relatively often, but I also really Stokes' version from his solo CD.
I also really Stokes' version from his solo CD.
Oh I forgot about that. Yeah I enjoy that one too. Anthony Warlow also does a really great version on one of his solo CDs. I've seen two productions of Company, the Broadway revival w/ Raúl & the Seattle production last year w/ Hugh Panaro. The '95 Broadway revival album was the first one that got me familiar with the show, which is probably why I like it so much, though the original w/ Dean Jones is beginning to grow on me. I like him a lot, the rest of the cast not so much, but really I'll listen to anything having to do with this brilliant show!
Didn't Audra record the song? I'm not finding it on iTunes, so I might be crazy, but I thought I read that somewhere.

I haven't run into an Audra version anywhere, that would probably be pretty great.
As far as Beling Alive by people who aren't Raul Esparza, I'll admit to being pretty partial to Patti LuPone's from the Sondheim Celebration at Carnegie Hall.
I have never heard of her doing it, but perhaps she did it in concert at some point in time? She has never recorded it, unless it is a bootleg recording.

what i love best about the Brazilian recording is that it sounds like Sondheim & Bacharach teamed up!!!!

...why does that intrigue me so much? Now I really do have to find that.
Yeah, maybe she did it live. I can't find a recording anywhere, but I'm pretty sure I didn't make up the idea that she sang it at some point! I could certainly have, though.

"Being Alive" is just gorgeous. My personal favorite renditions include those done by Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, Anthony Warlow, Brian Stokes Mitchell and, of course, Raúl.

That link also says that websales begin on the sixth, so I guess the release to stores and iTunes ended up not being until the 13th.
I'm glad they're including some book scenes, as well as the opening and that it ends with Being Alive. They could've included the actual finale, but that Being Alive is such a great way to end the album.
I could jump out of my skin with excitement.
I can't even tell you how thrilled I am that they're recording the book scene with Bobby and Joanne. That's one of the most breathtaking parts of the show, and I hadn't even dreamed that they'd have it on the recording. I can't wait!
Is that infamous, "Stop!" going to be on the recording, do we think?

I almost hope it isn't. It probably will be, for continuity's sake, but yikes. That won't be iPod material, that's for sure. My poor ears. Primal and dramatically beautiful as it may be... eep.
Now here's the question. If I order it online on Feb 6, will I get it feb 13? Because if it wont come by Feb 13, I'll just get it in stores that day.
I'm debating the same, ljay. Someone posted that PS Classics is really quick, though, so I'm thinking that if I place an order on the 6th, it'll come before the 13th.
