We are trying to choose a 3rd show for our upcoming trip and I'm struggling to decide. I have narrowed down our choices to Company and Moulin Rouge. If it were just hubby and me I would likely choose Company based on what I have read here. However, I'm worried my 16 year old son and 18 year old daughter will not enjoy it. Has anyone taken an older teen to see Company? What does everything think about teens and Company? Moulin Rouge looks like it it is likely more fun for teens (and if I'm honest for the hubby as well but he is happy to see whatever).
We already have tickets to see Six and Hadestown (please let the cast get better!). This a redo trip from March 2020 when we were supposed to see both and our 3rd attempt at seeing Hadestown after the entire Houston portion of the tour was cancelled. We have seen DEH, Hamilton, Wicked, Aladdin, Lion King.

Honestly go see Company. Company is still a show I'm understanding in different ways as I hit 30, but I enjoyed it (the show itself) when I was in high school even though a lot of themes I didn't understand. This production of Company is visually compelling and to see a cast like this is well worth the ticket price. Its the best production I have seen of this show.
COMPANY would be a good balance to SIX and HADESTOWN, which should both be incredibly accessible to teens. There might be some things that go over their heads in COMPANY, but they should still take enough away from it.
Unless they want some mind-numbing spectacle, then go to MOULIN.

For teens, I'd recommend ''Moulin Rouge!,'' Broadway's current Best Musical with 10 Tony Awards. It's a crowd-pleaser with a love story,; the dancing is sexy and dynamic, and the lavish sets and colorful costumes are an eye-popping spectacle. Plus, I believe most teens will get a kick out of hearing pop songs they all know by Adele, Elton John, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Sia and many more.

Company is the show that in 10 years you’re going to want to say you saw. It’s brilliant and the cast is phenomenal. Patti LuPone will likely never do another musical. It’s not as accessible as moulin rouge with Katy perry and Elton John, but that’s not why I see Broadway shows. If the kids are musical theatre fans Company is the obvious choice.
At the end of the day, they’re about as different as two Broadway musicals could possibly be. I’d ask the kids what they want to see.
Unless your children are really into musical theatre, they'll have a much better time at Moulin Rouge. Send your husband and the two of them over there, and go see Company by yourself.

I couldn’t agree more wholeheartedly.
Decades later they will remember this production and be grateful you took them. Casts like this are so rare, and it’s historic, as it’s the last Sondheim Broadway production he worked on and attended.

First off, I can't speak about Moulin Rouge other than the music. I haven't seen it yet. However, we did see COMPANY in December and my 17 and 14 year old kids LOVED it. I will also say, both of my kids are theatre kids but they loved it so much we are going again in May. My daughter loved Patti and Christopher Fitzgerald (she really enjoyed everyone, but those were her standouts). I totally agree with the comment that in 10 years from now you'll still be talking about seeing this show. If you go, Enjoy!
No easy answer....it depends on the kids. But, from the sound of they are experienced theater goers, so Company is what I'd choose, too. If, however, they aren't, then go see MR. Have you asked them?
I agree with the poster that said it rounds out you three choices:
SIX: new, popular, contemporary score
HADESTOWN: new, critically acclaimed, unique score
COMPANY: classic revival, original cast, traditional Broadway score
IMO, MR checks the same boxes as Six.

You will be kicking yourself in the future if you don't see Company. This is a once in a lifetime production. But like TaffyDavenport said, if your children don't love musical theatre, send them to Moulin Rouge, and see Company by yourself.

Based on shows your kids have seen so far, I would recommend Moulin Rouge. Company is for people who enjoy more classical theatre and your kids may be bored. Moulin Rouge is a flashy, fun, love story with pop songs they will most likely recognize and get a kick out of.
Forgot to mention: my 22 year old son came with me, and I was concerned that he might not connect to the material....but he LOVED it. Granted, he's being seeing shows since he was 5 but he is pretty astute about what he likes and what he doesn't.
Are the kids theatre geeks? Then I'd recommend Company. Sondheim at his finest in a glorious production. If not, then Moulin Rouge is huge spectacle and a ton of fun. Really either one, but Moulin Rouge I doubt is going anywhere, so you can always come back for it.

A lot of people will tell you that they won't understand Company, and on some level, they won't. However as somebody who is closer to their age than Bobbie's it still hit home. Maybe not the marrige stuff so much, but there are other parts. Bobbie's three songs especially cross generations to me.
We took my 25-year-old son to see both Moulin Rouge and Company near the end of February. Our son (like us) LOVED Company, and was bored by Moulin Rouge--as were we. Agree with the posts here that this production of Company is one for the ages. That said, teens may well prefer Moulin Rouge. Plenty of spectacle, familiar pop music, vigorous dancing--none of which Company has. Hate to say it, but Moulin Rouge will probably leave a more lasting impression on a teenager--unless they are deep into Sondheim.

As a teen myself, I would say that Company is the best musical on Broadway right now and I would recommend it to anyone. That said, I’m a huge musical theater fan and as other have said that probably makes an impact, Moulin Rouge is definitely the safer bet given the spectacle and music and energy, etc… and I loved it too. But Company is just something special. There’s parts that are just really funny, I wouldn’t say you have to “get it” to enjoy it, but I’d also say even though all the intricacies of considering marriage isn’t something I’m experienced in, a large part of the show still connected with me. I may be totally off, but like social suffocation, awkwardness and working to fit and make the most of various situations, and general hesitation and searching for what’s right all felt like parts that I could relate to. But even if I’m completely wrong about what I’ve taken out of it, or if it WOULD be harder to “understand” or connect with, I would still recommend Company for anyone. It’s really funny and has so many incredible performances on top of the already great material + staging/set.

Thank you so much to everyone who has responded! I have read all the responses and truly appreciate them! We are going to go for Company! I feel like we will regret if we don't. Moulin Rouge is definitely not something we have been dying to see so we can definitely wait and maybe see it on tour or on another trip. Off to buy tickets!!!!!
Let us know how you all liked the show!

Let me cast another vote for COMPANY. Why pass up the opportunity to expose your children to a theater legend like Patti LuPone?

I definitely will!!!! Trying to decide on the best seats. Just read on the other thread that orchestra is best but there is not much left. R ochestra J 10-16 Or N 6-12. But there is plenty in the mezz (center mezz row d, right mezz row c 6-12)! Would love opinions if anyone is still reading! They are all close to the same price.

What is the code? This link is just taking me to non-discounted tickets, and the only codes I can find elsewhere are only good through 4/3.
