Posted: 3/24/10 at 5:52pmHe was pretty naked in that Beautiful Life ad. How much more naked could he get?

Good for him AND for the audiences. I found him utterly charming...on and off stage. He was very kind to my dd, 13, at the stage door. His demeanor fit right in with b'way community, and he truly tried to spend time with everyone that was there.
Of course, now my daughter is pushing to go see it again...not sure if I will though.

Has anyone seen him recently? Here's the thing...
I want to see the show so badly (for the first time), but I'm not sure if I want to see it with Corbin. Or wait until they get a new Usnavi, which will probably be Javier Munoz. The reason why I'm asking is because, even though I hear he's fantastic, I'm still on edge about him playing a Latino. I'm not sure if that would be racist or whatever. Just wondering...

Posted: 5/21/10 at 4:57pmI'm not sure how to help you. You hear he's fantastic but you're critical of his having a different ethnicity from his character and you want an update. Your concerns aren't racist. You want to see an actor whose heritage is the same as his character. So you're wondering... what? All I can tell you is no new knowledge of his racial make-up has come forward. He's still not Latino.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 5:09pmI saw the show for the first time ever with him as Usnavi and he was WONDERFUL. I honestly didn't care if he wasn't Latino. He was great the whole time! Also, Janet as Nina is something you cannot pass up either :)

I recommend seeing Corbin. He's incredible and brings a whole new energy to the show. He's such a delight to watch. I haven't seen Javier live, but I love Corbin so much more. Plus, if you love the show that much you can always go back at a later date with the new Usnavi.
Also, is that just a rumor that Javier is coming back?

Posted: 5/21/10 at 5:19pm^ No rumor. I would just be expecting that since Corbin was originally signed for a few weeks. And usually, the person they replace comes back after limited engaements, right? I don't know, just my throught process...

^Not necessarily, but who knows.
Corbin does so well that you completely forget he isn't Latino. Also, Jordin Sparks will be in the cast shortly after he leaves and she's not Latino...

Posted: 5/21/10 at 5:59pmI agree. Corbin does a great job, and he was my first Usnavi, also. So what if he isnt Latino? I'm pretty sure any actress that has played Elphaba isn't really green.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 6:29pmYou would be doing yourself a disservice by not going while Corbin was in it. He is fantastic in the role. He gives 1000% every minute he is on that stage. He and David Del Rio are actually quite funny together. If you don't go to see a show because of someone's ethnicity, you will be missing out on a great performance.

Posted: 5/21/10 at 6:49pmI'll add in to those praising him. I saw the show for the first time a few weeks ago, with very little prior knowledge of it other than what I saw on the Tony telecast and a few other television appearances. He quickly made me stop thinking of him as "one of those High School Musical (which I have never seen) guys." He was very charming, had a great stage presence, and gave a very good performance. Though I saw it for free, it was not one of those shows that I walked out of saying "thank god I didn't pay money for that."

Posted: 5/21/10 at 8:06pmi also saw the show for the first time with corbin, and he was fantastic. looking back on it, i was kind of skeptical about his performance. but he was great and i would see him again in a heartbeat. go see the show and it's actors because you want to experience the performance, don't worry about his race.
