I actually think he's probably one of the more talented in that HSM group.

I think he's one of the more talented HSM kids as well...with Lucas Grabeel being the most talented IMO.

Hopefully his hair will be cut short, wouldn't want him and Marcy (Vanessa) having the same 'do.

Awful casting. But maybe that's because I only see the part as played by Miranda.

That's my problem in a nutshell, RentBoy. And I just wonder if he'll be able to handle the heavy lifting of carrying that show.

When I read the headline I immediately thought he was cast as Sonny, which I can totally see and think he could excel at. However, USNAVI?? REALLY? I hope he proves my immediate thoughts wrong...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

When I read this I assumed he was going to be Benny until I saw Usnavi haha

I think he could be a good Benny, actually...I just can't see him as Usnavi.

Capn, I thought the same thing. I'm not sure how I feel about this. It has definitely piqued my interest.

Don't you kind of have to be Latino for this role?
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

Isn't he the wrong ethnicity for Usnavi? haha

I thought he'd be playing Sonny. That I can see. Usnavi, I can't.

Supposedly he's half Jamaican, so at least it's somewhere south of the continental US.
Meanwhile, I checked - he's 20 years old. Robin de Jesus is 25 years old. This should be interesting.

Let's hope it stays that way.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Does Lin-Manuel still have say (or did he ever have say) in the casting?

I can't help thinking of the "Legally Brown" spoof and their jab at stunt casting.
