I saw Corey on Monday August 27. I thought he was pretty terrific. I have seen Jeremy. The show loses nothing with Corey. In fact, if I hadn't known I was watching Corey, I might have thought I was seeing Jeremy again. Look alike/sound alike. Very good voice, good presence. I was kind of hoping to see Jeremy for the second time before he leaves the show, but Corey showed up. I'm glad to have seen both.
I also went on Monday, August 27 and saw Corey. Unlike homeimp, though, I was kind of disappointed. I do, admittedly, love Jeremy Jordan and his performances (thought he's been brilliant in both B&C and Newsies). If Corey had been the original Jack, he would've been just fine, but I think there's something special about Jeremy.
My friend that goes with me to most shows said that Jeremy has a bigger presence on stage, and I really have to agree with that. She mentioned that she would occasionally "lose" Corey on stage. I can understand it. He's a bit smaller/slimmer and just doesn't seem to demand the same presence. I also thinks she means that aurally he can get lost, and I'm not sure if that's due to the odd balance where I was sitting or that they didn't adjust the balance right when Corey did the show in Jeremy's place (and any balance issues might be corrected when Corey takes over full-time). Sound balance issues aside, though, I think Corey really can get lost in the numbers because he doesn't have as much of a loud, belting, brassy sound as Jeremy, and he doesn't shout certain words/lyrics quite as loudly. To his credit, he is a gorgeous singer and I thought he sang more of the parts than Jeremy who would sort of yell/shout parts. His voice is smooth as silk, but again that is kind of the problem, as Jeremy's voice is not always smooth, and that coupled with his more imposing image made him a natural leader (though more unbelievable than Corey at playing a 17-year-old).
Overall, Corey is great and he really does a wonderful job with the part. In many places, he sounds just like or quite similar to Jeremy. I'm sure he'll do marvelously in the role!
I saw Corey in a recent Wednesday matinee. The show itself is superb and the entire ensemble cast is uniformly excellent. They could mix & match the entire cast with the same result. Everyone was great. The show would work just as well with any of the cast members in the lead role. Corey flubbed a couple of lines in the show I saw, but it sounds like he has now grown into the role and is now performing as excellently as the rest of the cast.
(As an aside, I can't understand why this show didn't win the Tony for Best Musical. There is no comparison between this show and "Once." This is a huge hit that will run for years. The screaming and the enthusiasm of the audience was quite evident. Go see Newsies!!)
I'm at the show now, it's intermission. I was surprised to see Jeremy in the role tonight instead of Corey. I think Corey has some big shoes to fill. Jordan really is terrific in the role, all raw intensity. It's just a wonderful show, and the audience is loving it. I guess I'll have to come back to see Corey!
Great article on him. I knew he turned down Fiyero cover on the Wicked tour to do Newsies, but didn't know about Glee and Bare. He must be pretty darn good to have four job options right out of college. I think he made the right choice.
He's absolutely amazing and should have been nominated for his work in Gigi.

And I was lucky enough to see him in Newsies. He's always excellent.

He missed a fair amount of performances during the final months of NEWSIES, and gave inconsistent performances when he was in. That said, he managed to land his next job pretty quickly, so he'll probably continue to do well.
He had health issues at the end of his run in Newsies...he did Newsies for a long period of time though.

I'm unsure about the details, but he mentioned that on his broadway.com interview. Check that out and better yet, check him in Gigi.

That voice, that face, that body, that acting. He's the real deal.
