According to the Hollywood Reporter, his role for the next season was reduced to accommodate his going to rehab. So probably whatever reason they used to explain his absence during that time, they may use to phase his character out completely. If it does get confirmed that his death was drug-related, I don't really see how they can integrate that in to the storyline since his character never showed any indication of drug use, so it would be really out of nowhere... But I guess with Glee, you never know, the plot has always been totally random.
Hollywood Reporter article
My cousin died of a drug overdose back in March. He was 19. He was clean but went back once and it was that one time.
I've heard that when you get clean and then try to take the same dose it can kill you. I know that happened to Barbara Eden's son and that's what happened to my cousin.
I like Jungle Red's philosophy (or was it dramama's?) - so much better to celebrate someone's life when they pass.
Like taxes, it's unavoidable.

It is quite a shocking occurrence. For many people and fans, it's like losing someone close....like a family member. He gave so much people so much joy and happiness thru his work on "Glee." Our thoughts go to his family and friends.
very sad news...on such a rough day already with the other news from Florida...i am a devout GLEEK and have watched Cory from show 1...while he never had the best voice or the best acting chops, i always pulled for him and so did the audience...i think Ryan should face this death head on...i mean they can't just ignore the reality of one of their stars not there anymore in such a sudden way...
R.I.P. Cory...
They were on and off for a couple of years. Their relationship is being grossly exaggerated (and romanticized) by many on here right now.
Their relationship is NOT being "grossly exaggerated". They were a couple and very much in love. Lea supported him during his last stay in rehab and when he was released they both went on a romantic vacation to Mexico to celebrate. They were in love.

He kissed Miss Pillsbury for no reason. There's your launch pad for drug use.
As per usual some of the comments on here are typically cold and idiotic.
A young man has died, people are sad because he was somebody who for the last 4 years many have watched and connected with, it's really not that hard to grasp.

Is this really turning into a pity party over which death is more tragic? It is possible to be upset about two different pieces of news simultaneously. It is also possible that not all people use social media in the same way. Some do not choose to post anything related to politics, current events, etc. and just use their page for more frivolous activities. It does not mean that said people are not upset about what happened to Trayvon Martin or have not been following the trial on the news. It is commentary like that that adds a lot of undue stress for people who choose to use social media. Every little thing anybody says or doesn't say is used as proof to somebody else that they are a horrible person.
Yesterday was a horrible news day. For many reasons - not just limited to Martin and Monteith. Whether drugs are to blame in Monteith's death or not, addiction is a horrible disease that he obviously struggled with for half his life. I have sympathy for the demons he faced and respect that he attempted to get help for himself. I feel sympathy for his family, his friends, his co-stars, his girlfriend, and his many fans across the world who obviously got a great deal of joy from his work. A lot of his fans are also kids and this may be the first time they are experiencing the death of a celebrity who meant something to them during their formative years. This also may be the first time parents need to have the discussion with their young children about death, what it means, what addiction means, etc. I feel for them as well.
I woke up around 4:30am to get a drink and checked Twitter briefly -- when I first saw the headline, I thought it was just another hoax and shook it off. But I decided to check one more time before going back to sleep and I was completely floored. I had heard about his problems with addiction but I feel his death is truly shocking. My heart breaks for Lea today. She always cites Cory and Glee as being shining lights in her life and I can't even imagine the pain and sorrow that will be tied to this experience from here on out.
It would be disrespectful to Cory's memory to just simply write his character out of the show without approaching the circumstances of his absence head-on. I won't be surprised if the quickly-approaching fifth season will be delayed to give the writers and the cast time to process and grieve such a shocking loss.
Saw this posted on someone's Facebook this morning and thought it was a joke. I'm shocked - RIP.
Every death is tragic, but this feels like it was one of "ours," you know?
Completely heartbroken to hear he passed early this morning. Just three or four days ago I was on his IMDB page thinking about how happy I was that he was getting work outside of Glee, with his new movie coming out and all.
Westboro Baptist is tweeting the entire Glee cast that they are going to picket the funeral. They also tweeted directly to Lea Michele if she was also going to kill herself now so they could have their wedding in Hell. Those people are worse than Satan himself.
Re: Westboro Baptist
That's really disgusting.
Re: Westboro Baptist
Its so sick. They wrote extra long tweets for Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer specifically blaming the two of them for Cory's death. Assholes.
You know, I'm no fan of Lea Michele, but tweeting the suggestion of her committing suicide so she and Monteith can have a "wedding in hell" isn't just sick, it's childish and...I dunno...kinda dumb sounding. But then again, what else can one expect from them?

Westboro Church are sick people. They threatened to picket the funerals of the Sandy Hook shooting victims. Police lined up to prevent them getting through (my picture below). Of course they never showed. They prefer just to get publicity from threatening.

The Westboro hate group are the only people I would truly wish something horrible on. They are sick people and I don't even want to call them human beings because they're that sick.
Anyway, this is really sad. It was weird. I woke up at 4am this morning and decided to go online briefly and saw everything. I was afraid it might put a damper on seeing Matthew Morrison at 54 Below this afternoon, but it didn't. It was a wonderful afternoon and Matt sang "What I Did For Love," in memory of Cory. I had tears in my eyes during it.
Morrison's tribute seemed nice and appropriate. He didn't turn it into a big memorial. He paid homage and then did the usual show as planned. Classy.
Maybe we can start a thread sending "good vibes" towards Matt for losing his co-worker, and ending his 54 Below run on the same day?

I woke up to this news and while my heart sank a little, the first thing that came to mind was Heath Ledger. Whether it proves to be natural causes or an accidental overdose, we've almost become all too accustomed to stories of young actors and musicians wrestling with their demons with this being the end result.
Doesn't make it any less sad.
Let us not rush to judgement as to what caused his death. Let's just remember that, although his star burned so quickly, it burned brightly. He was flawed and imperfect, but who isn't? The fact is that he accomplished many things. Many of us just live our ordinary, mundane lives.
I woke up to the news. Just horrific. I'm praying for him and his loved ones and his co-stars. Esepecially Lea and Jane, who has been having a horrendous weekend.

Jungle Red,
Did your catty comments about Cory Monteith's death make you feel more human; more of a man. When you die, I hope those who comment about it don't follow your example.
"Not jump to conclusions"?? When a 31 year old otherwise healthy male dies suddenly and he's been in and out of rehab, you can safely assume he was on junk, H, horse, smack. I'm talkin' about that dangerous white lady called heroin.
Very sad. Rest in Peace.
