Went back to see Spamalot again on thursday since seeing it Dec 28th for the first time. Still loved it, but this time a little more because of the remoooval (forgive the pun) of the cow song. It seemed out of place, slowed the show, and ripped off from Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles. Other than that, a few added lines here and there which only made it funnier. Cant wait till this opens at the Shubert in February!

I can't wait to see it and hear the music!
But it was one of Sara Rimarez's highlights. PUT IT BACK!

*threadjack* (sorry)
Is it wrong that whenever I see the words 'for now' together I hear the Avenue Q crew singing "George Bush! Is only For Now!"? lol

I wish i could have heard the song. But, I saw yesterday's matinee and the show was amazing. It is going to be a BIG hit . Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, and Chirstopher Sieber (sorry if im spelling some names wrong) are REALLY nice too. Chirstopher sieber even helped me fix my digital camera so I could take a picture with him.
I went to see Spamalot again a couple days ago and was happy they had cut the Cow Song. Even though it's great whenever Sara is onstage, she already has several showstopping solos in the first act, and the Cow Song completely stopped the show in a bad way - breaking up a classic comic bit ("Fetchez la vache!!").
I noticed a few new jokes ("Show me the Monet") and a few cut jokes ("It's only a model.")
Overall, the show seemed tightened up and held up well on second viewing. Pretty damned hysterical!

I LOVED the Cow Song......
Ah, well. Is she still a cow - or is that character cut?
Yesterday there was no human acting as a cow, but a stuffed cow being tossed onto the character Patsy.

As much as I liked Sarah (And her Cow dress) this song was really out of place. I say cut it and then you have a bonus track for the soundtrack.
It really did bring the bit to a screeching halt and then when the cow finally went over the wall it was bewildering to say the least. The number served it's purpose well: It allowed Eric Idle to give those early interviews when he could explain that the difference between "Holy Grail" and "Spamalot" was that in "Grail" they tossed a dead cow over the wall and in "Spamalot" that cow had a song.

Still disappointed in this!
She was ravishing in that costume! So, I guess they must be changing the playbill now? No longer Lady-of-the-Lake, Witch and Cow...
Personally, cutting anything of her's I think is a mistake - I enjoyed the show the most when she was onstage...cut the song when the producers start using that role as a star vehicle and the replacements can't handle the comedy...
I don't mind the cut of The Cow Song. It was way too slow and the pacing of the show ground to a halt for that song just before the first act finale. I liked the character. Perhaps if they gave her a shorter version of the song or a more upbeat number, it could work, but it does sort of mess up the visual of the stuffed cow launched onto the stage.
I just wish they would add the Spanking Maidens...

According to a review I've just read from the Chicago Tribune (warning: this has MAJOR spoilers for the show, and isn't as kind as the first reviews, http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/arts/chi-0501230273jan23,1,6334977.story?coll=chi-leisurearts-hed) "Burn Her" (the witch song) has been cut along with "The Cow Song".
I liked both of those numbers, but "Burn Her" moreso because it including the introduction of Bedevere and the duck gag. That, and it kept Sara Ramirez onstage. Stop cutting down her part, people!
I hope they at least put these songs on the cast recording, because I would love to hear them again.

I was very surprised to read that Tribune review this weekend and see that "Burn Her" had been cut also. It doesn't make much sense to me to cut so much from the cast emember who has gotten the best reviews. I also can't imagine that first act now with the whole "Witch" scene cut. I can only hope that they are planning a new song for Sara in NYC. Maybe she can be one of the Spanking maidens? I am also sad because I thought Sara playing the three female roles added to the general silliness of the show. I loved the line in Playbill that showed Sara playing "Lady of The Lake/Witch/Cow"!
They cut "Burn Her" too?!??!? Why would they do something like that?!?!? AAAAAH!
Okay, I loved the show and loved Sara, but I agree that the Cow song was one of the lesser moments, though it was good. It just wasn't up to par with the rest of the show, through no fault of Sara's. She's astonishing.

I haven't seen the movie on which the show is based ( Monty Python and the Holy Grail ?) - should I try to get a video/DVDo or should I see the show without any idea ( all I know is that it is a spoof of Camelot) of what the fun is all about?
I did get a great seat for the show in May.
Can't wait!! Already have tickets for March 11th!!
