Each time I hear that song it get's worse.
Not the actress, the song.

I love 'Cry-Baby' and to me, there's nothing wrong with the song or the actress. It's hard to take 'Screw Loose' out of context; the 'Regis' audience doesn't know the character she plays or where she's coming from. Each time I've seen 'Cry-Baby,' Alli Mauzey gets lotsa laughs and a great hand for it, and she's clearly a crowd favorite. I actually thought it came off better on 'Regis' than it did at the VISA Tony preview concert. But it's hard for satire to go over well. I would've picked James Snyder and Elizabeth Stanley to belt 'I'm Infected'; that's more straightforward and less ironic.

Hey Wayman, I have always enjoyed your views, can you explain further the "irony" in SCREWLOOSE?
She's nuts, there isn't even any subtext, she mixes up some cliches and that's about it for me.
Maybe they aren't featuring Snyder and Stanley because most people agree they have zero chemistry together.
I only heard it on the radio, but I enjoyed the performance a lot. Mauzey was terrific.
I haven't seen or heard anything from "cry baby". i've just heard how awful it is. but the performance I just saw was hilarious. I was laughing out loud! She was great! Sure the song isn't a lyrical gem but she made it very, very funny. If I were in the audience, I would have been the one person cracking up obnoxiously. I thought it was great!

CurtainPullDowner, you're right. 'Irony' is the wrong word; I meant 'satire.' To me, 'Screw Loose' is a tongue-in-cheek parody of 'Crazy.' Whereas the Patsy Cline classic is about someone metaphorically going nuts, 'Screw Loose' is about someone truly mental. It makes me laugh, and I think David Javerbaum and Adam Schlesinger did a terrific job with this song.

I saw it for the first time on the Visa concert and thought Mauzy's performance (and the song) BLEW AWAY the other nominees. I'm dying to hear the whole score.

Here's a BroadwayWorld.com interview where Alli Mauzey talks about 'Screw Loose' and how it got taken up a notch. It's insanely such a hoot. (Mauzey should've gotten a Tony nomination; anyway, she's picking up a Theatre World Award today. Brava!)

Does anyone else think Mauzey looks like Stephanie D'Abruzzo?

Detested nearly everything about CRY-BABY. Thought "Screw Loose" was the best number in the show. Glad that it gets national exposure.

I do really like the show and just assumed that they'd do "A Little Upset" like they did on the Today Show yesterday. I must admit though that "Screw Loose" isn't really a song to be performed outside of the show. Out of context, the song clearly raised a few eyebrows. Oh well. I liked it because I know who Lenora is as a character but the studio audience didn't, and that should've been considered when choosing the song.
Enough about Mauzey's performance.
Let's talk about the real hilight of that clip; Regis saying "open-mouth kissing".
Gold, I tell ya! GOLD!

can i say...wtf....i love her voice, but that song??? just wow
they should have picked a different number for R&K.
What a weird choice for a morning talk show. I really doubt that made the little old ladies and suburban housewives want to see Cry Baby...a girl sticking a lollipop in her cleavage and having someone's name carved into her arms.
Kelly gave it a proper intro, too bad it seemed to go over everyone's head.

I liked the performance. I'm sure I'll like it more when I see it in context next week when I see Cry-Berry.
What's Cry-Berry? Is that a new flavor of Gatorade? It sounds tasty.
