Umm... I don't think Sir Ian McKellen is hurting for work...

Not to try to (continue) thread-jack(ing) the thread that I started, but how can you classify an actor with 75 film and television credits to his name "irrelevant"? Because he doesn't fit into your theory? Sir Ian on IMDB

He's a terrific actor and I admire him completely. He's out and he's proud and doesn't put up with bull****, but I'm asking about out actors in leading men. Last I checked, the narrator in STAR DUST wasn't the lead.
He's not someone a million women are going to drool over. In that regard, he's irrelevant.

You've got to look at his career as a whole though. Yes, he hasn't played a leading role in a whole, but he played the title role in Richard III for example. And once you take into consideration the fact that he hasn't always been in his 60s, I bet he was a pretty handsome younger man.
I'm not saying that there are a ton of openly gay leading men in Hollywood, (outside of Rupert Everett, whose career seems to have crashed as of late, I can't think of many more,) but -- in my opinion -- McKellen counts. I have a feeling we're going to have to agree to disagree on that one though (and that's okay by me).

Well, would you look at that? ClumsyDude saves the day.

Yes, I did post that quote, but here's the deal. He ALSO said:
" Hollywood is a dream factory. I love the way that conservatives think that Hollywood is a bed of radicalism - it couldn't be more staid and old-ladyship if it tried. The audience don't give a blind whatever about the sexuality of actors. Gay people fancy straight people and vice-versa. It's all in the head, so what does it matter?"
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
I personally think it's ridiclous for producers/directors to not put openly gay actors in lead roles in any movie because of them being open about who they are. They can bring just as much to the table as a straight actor would, or perhaps more.
I think that we as a society need to allow people to be who they are and let them be able to have all the same experiences and chance.

I was interested in the names you listed of romantic actors who are not gay. I'll concede that none of them mention it publicly, but there are several in your list about whom the rumors have been most rampant, going far beyond its being a well-kept secret.
Ed_Mottershead: There are rumors of Elijah and Orlando getting it on while working on LORD OF THE RINGS, but since neither one of them are officially out, it's a moot point.
And I do agree with you, Clumsy, but that's the way it is. It's going to take a new company to make change.
I believe Zac to be straight. I haven't heard any rumors.

I to clarify that when I posted the quote agreeing with jenna2, it was never intended to be "betraying" Cheyenne: I was just putting two quotes from him up and one agreed with jenna2 and one was a lean toward my opinon, I was just showing the two sides that we share, that Ian also shared.

I don't think you interpreted what I said correctly. I'm not going to get into a is-he or isn't-he controversy.
I'm still waiting for someone to give me at least one A-List celebrity that's gay and has a lead role in a Hollywood movie. Brad Pitt? Nope. George Clooney? Nope. Tom Cruise? Nope.
Well, Tom Cruise is debatable.
