One time at the stage door, I asked Cheyenne if he'd ever done Carousel. He said yes, but that he was too young at the time he played it and said he'd definitely be interested in doing it again. I think he'd be perfect and it would be truly SUNG. One of the problems (for me) with the Lincoln Center revival some years back was that, although Michael Hayden was believable and acted acceptably, the Soliloquy was totally beyond his vocal capabilities and Highest Judge of All was eliminated altogether. So while Cheyenne is in full vocal bloom, let's hear it for Carousel!
I've already posted on this, but now I have a question. The initial post referred to the remake of "The Carousel." Was it referring to a remake of the 1955 movie or a new Broadway production? I'm all for Cheyenne being in it, either way.

The choosing was not...

I interpreted "prisoner" in terms of his sexuality and willingness/ableness to live his life outside of the closet. Although, other than Broadway, I don't think the entertainment industry has come that far in that respect.
I think prisoner is the operative word. Rock Hudson was shackled to his "straight" image from the get-go. There's a book that came out a few years ago about Hudson's agent (something like "The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson") and the dirty deals he made to keep his star client's image squeaky clean. Apparently, Hudson was more than willing to go along with it, but he had to maintain a facade that was far from his "real" nature. Only when Hudson knew that he was dying of AIDS did he "come out." This is meant as no criticism of Hudson -- he did what he had to do at the time in which he lived. From what little I know first-hand, he was a very fun person behind the scenes and a "hoot" into the bargain. It says something about our times that a Cheyenne does not have to go through all the hypocrisy and can be what he is without comprimising. He makes no bones about his sexuality, maintains an honest front and is a "fun" person in the best sense of the word. He's a great poster boy for the gays of this country.
Along the same lines, it's one of the many reasons why I love and respect Cheyenne--that he is not only out, but out and proud. I've seen many out actors make steps back towards the closet once they start landing more work in Hollywood, but Cheyenne, if anything, is amping it up! Don't get me wrong, he's pretty, but as a lesbian that is lower on my list; I adore him because he is out and proud, funny, and just a little bit dorky!
Muse - you say... "He's very handsome, and if he is out, no one will cast him as a leading man."
Well that's so not true. He's currently playing a straight man in "Xanadu", who falls in love with a muse (and very believably btw.) And.... He's been signed to co-star in the TV series "Family Practice" for Lifetime in which he plays a womanizer, which is similar to the type of role openly gay Neil Patrick Harris is playing on "How I Met Your Mother."
Times have changed & what you say couldn't be further from the truth. Get over it!

"He's very handsome, and if he is out, no one will cast him as a leading man."
I have to say I highly disagree with this statement. Alright, maybe one or two people won't cast him (because there's always going to be someone who is difficult) but you can't exactly say its prevented him from having a career so far. I don't think its as black and white as you're making it. As long as he can pull off a role convincingly (no matter what it is), I think it won't be as much of a problem as you seem to imply. Out doesn't always mean you're unmarketable.
...and I know plenty of women who would have no problem loving a gay actor even though they can't have him.
The person who made the comment about him being out and not getting the leading man role is right....they are talking about Hollywood NOT Broadway.
He has had many roles on Broadway as the leading man... I don't see it happening for TV or film. But, someone please prove me wrong.

Hopefully Cheyenne will prove the naysayers wrong. He recently completed a feature film, "Hysteria" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1078897/ which is currently in post production. And I suspect there will be more films in his future. Time will tell

Cheyenne is a hero of mine, he is open about who he is and that is an admirable quality, however, I've noticed that he doesn't like to talk about it, and why should he, it's his private life and his private life is meant to be just that. Private.
As for the comment that he won't get cast for being openly gay: That is insane, people can play different people that are not like them, its called acting, its what his profession is, he can act however and land roles, he has obviously been doing fine for himself in the role-landing department from Xanadu to All Shook Up, and the upcoming Lifetime pilot, he has charm and an amazing talent, and that shines, not matter if your gay, straight or blue.
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
Clumsy: Yes, it's called acting. And Cheyenne may be the best actor in the world, but the producers know that the audiences probably won't want to watch some gay guy on the big screen. Sure, they'll watch a funny side kick gay guy, but no one in a leading role.
I'm still waiting for someone to give me at least one A-List celebrity that's gay and has a lead role in a Hollywood movie. Brad Pitt? Nope. George Clooney? Nope. Tom Cruise? Nope. Tom Hanks? Nope. Sylvester Stallone? Nope. Forest Whitaker? Nope. James McAvoy? Nope. Elijah Woods? Nope. Johnny Depp? Nope. Orlando Bloom? Nope.
Fact is, Hollywood makes its money off middle America and overseas. It doesn't matter how great of an actor Cheyenne is, he's out, and he's too much of a risk for leading man.
Did we see two gay guys in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN? We saw two straight guys playing gay guys because that's the safe. It makes people feel more comfortable watching two people acting gay than actually being gay, because if they were really gay, then well, none of them wants to see gay sex.
It's sad, but thems the facts, folks!
(While writing this, I remembered that Anthony Rapp was in RENT, except he's "bi" and he's not A list. And he wasn't really a leading man role. I'm also sorry to go off on this big tangent.)
