Would anybody else celebrate if Cynthia Nixon wins the Tony on Sunday?
I know the production itself had some flaws, but Cynthia Nixon's performance was outstanding. I imagine if the show was an open-run or still running right now that her name would be thrown out there throughout this Tony talk.
In my opinion she gave the best leading actress in a play performance this season, with Nina Arianda at a close second (I've seen all nominees but Linda Lavin). I'm rooting for Ms. Nixon on Sunday. Who is with me!?

Posted: 6/6/12 at 9:02pmI would be thrilled to see Cynthia win! I have not seen the production, but am sure she is teriffic. The main reason why I would be elated is due to the fact that Margret Edson, Wit's playright, teaches at the middle school I went to here in Atlanta! I had the good privelege of meeting her and talking to her a few months ago!

This year proved to be an embarrassment of riches in that category. Any of the nominees could walk away with it and I wouldn't be disappointed.
But yes, I did love Cynthia...and so gracious and ethereal at the stage door.

Posted: 6/6/12 at 9:51pmI had w few problems with Nixon in the earlier portions of the play, but, in another season, she would surely be Tony-worthy. I'm hoping for Arianda -- one of the best performances I'ver seen in the thaatre EVER (and I go back almost 60 years and have had the good fortune to see most of the great of that era).

In another season, Cynthia Nixon would have this in the bag.
I would be THRILLED if she pulled an upset, but in the "Realistic Winners" department, I'm Team Arianda.

Nixon was wonderful, but she was better in Rabbit Hole-which she won for. The problem for Nixon is she is brilliant in everything-she's an exceptional actress. Its the Meryl Streep syndrome. People take her talent for granted. She will need something revelatory for her to win again.
Arianda set the stage on fire. She deserves the Tony.
Bennett was fine but her play was an abomination. I hope she doesn't win.

Posted: 6/6/12 at 10:07pmI have seen all the performances nominated in this category except for Linda Lavin's and I do feel we were spoiled this season. All the ladies are very deserving. Cynthia Nixon's performance was sheer brilliance and would not have any problems with her or any of the ladies winning but Nina Arianda was mesmerizing and my favorite!

Posted: 6/7/12 at 10:11amI love Cynthia Nixon, but her choices in the first part of the play didn't really do it for me, though she was terrific in the second part. I have to say, Nina Arianda totally blew me away (and I loved the play as well), and I'm also rooting for her.

As much as I love Cynthia Nixon and think she is a brilliant actress, I have to say that her performance in Wit didn't do it for me either. I thought she was really affected in the role. Maybe it was an off night...

Posted: 6/7/12 at 11:42amI am personally rooting for Nixon and would be elated if she were to win, but I've come to terms with the fact that this dream is unrealistic. I was so deeply moved by her performance, in awe really, and truly believe hers was the best female performance I've ever had the pleasure of seeing onstage. I'll never understand why the production did not extend longer or begin as an open run initially. If it were still running, I think her chances would be exponentially higher. This is also why I think Tyne didn't score a nomination. A GREAT performance, but long gone and forgotten.

Posted: 6/7/12 at 11:52amI'm not sure how to say this without sounding like a bunch of sour grapes, but I'm curious if those who were totally overwhelmed by Nixon's performance have seen other productions of Wit? I still get goose bumps when I remember Judith Light's performance in the same play. And for that matter I get them when I think about an actress I saw do it at Asolo in Sarasota, and even one in a community theatre production. It's the kind of role that any really good actress will simply stun the audience with. That said, I haven't seen Ms. Nixon's performance so I really can't compare. But I have talked with several people who have seen other productions of Wit and found her performance great, but not necessarily "brilliant".

I saw Judith Light in the role and will always remember it. It's what solidified the fact for me that she is one of our greatest living actresses.
That said, I thought Nixon was divine in the role. She added her own dry sense of "Wit" to it which worked wonderfully, I thought. I think it was a perfect performance that, should she be honored on Sunday, will be extremely well deserved.

I think it is one of those years that I really won't be disappointed in any of the 5 actresses winning.
We were the fortunate ones to have the opportunity to see all these performances in one season.

I would love for Nixon, Arianda or Lavin to win. I'd be disappointed if Bennett won for her manic hatchet job of Judy. I didn't think her acting was great. Was I in awe of her physicality and stamina-yes. Acting, no.
To me, Nina was the athlete. She had to maintain incredibly high levels of energy and voice, vacillate between sex kitten and raging bitch, and all the while acting the s#@t out of the part. No small feat.
I want Nina to take the Tony.

I have not seen Light or Nixon, but Kathleen Chalfant's performance as Vivian Bearing is one of the finest performances I've ever seen.
I am a proud member of Team Arianda!

Not a chance in hell that Cynthia Nixon is winning.
I'd say she'll come in dead last in the voting.

Posted: 6/7/12 at 11:41pmI think Arianda should and will win, but would not be disappointed at all if Channing did. Too bad Rachel Griffiths wasn't nominated, but there just weren't enough slots to go around.
