Posted: 11/20/06 at 5:45pmThey all lip-synch. Even the greats. It may have nothing to do with how good they sound or anything like that, sometimes it's a decision made by producers. Everyone from Whitney Houston (in her prime) to Tina Turner have lip-synched, when we all know they have the voice. I worked on a TV show that was very popular in the early 90's, and many guests did not sing live on that "live" show. It's a state of the art. Who cares anyway, those girls are simply divine.

I just watched it and I don't think it was lipsynced. I'm not familar with the original cast recording of the show so I think that may play a part in whether you like "Listen" or not, but I'd have to say it sounded great to me. Definitely looking forward to this, although I would have preferred more performances like she did when she had Color Purple on.
Hey, now that Oprah is a Broadway producer, maybe she'll get a Dreamgirls revival going?

MY THOUGHTS:
I can't stand Jamie Foxx. The studio isn't sunny. Take off the sunglasses.
Beyonce sounded phenomenal, but during the interviews, she was definitely the least eloquent and interesting.
Jeniffer Hudson is my new favorite person.
The "It's All Over" clip was great.
Anika Noni Rose is the best thing since sliced bread.
I am so glad Fantasia Barrino didn't get Effie. The horror.
I found it odd just Beyonce got to sing, but whatever.
It was a little frustrating that they put such a microscope of Beyonce and Foxx.
Oprah was really rude to that guy who got to come and won tickets to the premier.
What great publicity!

I am watching it now in Denver. I agree, Jamie Foxx doesn't need the sunglasses. Since he won the Oscar, he has gotten all "serious". Like he is now the hottest thing since sliced bread.
I don't think Oprah was really rude to the guy they gave the tickets to. I think she just needed to get him offstage to get on with the show. Haven't gotten to Beyonce singing yet, but Beyonce can really belt live. She is one of the few current pop stars that can deliver a good live performance vocally, in my opinion.

Is there a link to this anywhere? Like on Oprah's website or something?
Thanks.

^so far it seems like just pics... but I know sometimes they do put up clips and stuff a little later! on a lot of times, if they have an "after the show" for that episode, they'll put clips of that up too
so yeah, I totally just went to the official site and watched the trailer because I hadnt seen it before. I'm basically thinking this is going to be my new Chicago :P (I was OBSESSED with chicago when it first came out... and I still love it a TON!) But even more importantly, its going to be THE new chicago I bet- in that I bet it'll win all the academy awards and everything

Posted: 11/20/06 at 6:52pmOprah's website just has a promo for the show. (That's all I could find). Check your overnight listings to see if they are re-running it. I know they do that here in Denver. Sometimes she will re-run a really popular show and might do so before the movie is released.

Posted: 11/20/06 at 7:17pmThese clips don't do the film justice. They don't represent just how quick a pace the film moves. I do love the wig scene with Deena, Lorrell, and Effie, though.

I just got done watching it. I agree with everything you said, AmericanBoy. If Fantasia got the part of Effie, I would have shot myself with a nail gun. I can't stand her.
But anyway, I officially am in love with Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose.
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015

Jenniffer is seriously SO incredible
you know whats funny? I TOTALLY forgot that she was the one who got voted off way way WAY too early! like, I obviously totally recognized her and everything, and remembered that she'd left pretty early on in season 3, but I had completely forgotten that she was expected to be one of the front runners for the season, and that she was the first of the three HUGE shocks/dissapointments of that year! It was Jen, then...someone?.. then Latoya. They were all expected to get really far and really didn't. Mannn who was the second one? this is gonna bug me now haha. For someone who watches american idol obsessively, I really have a lousy memory! lol

Posted: 11/20/06 at 9:58pmIt got me very excited. Beyonce is extremely talented. She was not lip-synching. It would e amazing if she made a broadway debut. Dude, the stage door would be out of control though!!

Posted: 11/20/06 at 10:26pmwow jennifer hudson is just an amazing gracious person... i love watching beyonce's face..daggers!!... Jennifer is going to steal the show on this film.. however beyonces "listen" was fantastic. It did seem a lil bit like lip synching.. but who cares she still sounded great.. they should have let jennifer sing something!!!!!!!! geez... its like hollywoods biggest guarded performance, because the "and Iam telling you" thats out there right now.. isnt the one performed in the film..

Posted: 11/20/06 at 10:35pmBeyonce is amazing.. That final song was incredible. She has has gotten the training she needs. I am so excited!

Oprah has said before that she doesn't allow lip syncing on her show. As well, immediately after the song Beyonce said 'thank you' into the mic, clearly out of breath.
I don't think anyone has ever disputed her singing talent, so there should be no reason to think she wasn't singing live.

I am also excited about all of this
but didn't that song sound like they are
trying to give Deena an Effie moment?
Tonight on Night Line Beyonce said she wanted to be the first black woman to win a Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
I doubt she will beat Helen Mirren for the Oscar this year
and as many Pop Stars find out 8 shows a week on Broadway
isn't as easy as it looks, but hey Someone write her a role and let's find out.
Oprah is repeated in NYC at 1 AM.
