I'm totally wondering where I can get like... legit copies of Broadway shows.
Not your average, shaky hand held version your cousin Vinny took when he snuck his camcorder into The Palace Theater but an awesome Pro-Shot version.
I've never had the luck in locating any except for CATS *sigh* and I need to add to my collection of posters, albums, movie musicals....
Search the boards, there are plenty of threads listing which shows were legitly recorded.
FYI - a very minimal amount of shows are legally sold on DVD. Everything is recorded, just not for public mass sale.
There are quite a bit. Most Sondheim shows are recorded and available.
There are tons of threads on this.
These are all PROFESSIONAL videos/dvds from Broadway/London shows- not bootlegs.

I hate to break it to you Producer2, but Legally Blonde has NOT been LEGALLY released and there are no plans to do so.
Contact was a Live From Lincoln Center production so there isn't a professionally released DVD available. Also, if you're going to include Jerry Seinfeld's "I'm Telling You For The Last Time" you can add Lewis Black's "Black on Broadway" and Robin Williams' "Live on Broadway" from 2002.
Crazy for You is available to buy ??????? Is there a link please, because it is not available on Amazon !

Will Rogers was taped by Japanese TV like Victor Victoria. It was never released commercially.
There was a recording of I Do I Do with Hal Linden & Lee Remick but it is long since out of print. I had a copy & put it on DVD
WHOOPI: BLACK TO BROADWAY
***Will Rogers was taped by Japanese TV like Victor Victoria. It was never released commercially.***
Victor/Victoria was released commercially on DVD in the US, but it’s out of print now. (Will Rogers… was never released)
As was mentioned before Contact was a Live From Lincoln Center that was never released on DVD so if your going to list that you might as well include:
Light In The Piazza
A Little Night Music
Company (Donmar production)
I know there are more shows that were recorded that
weren't released that I'm forgetting now. Oh well they're
unavailable anyway :)
Another show that is still available that you didn’t list is Oh Calcutta, though I rarely see that one mentioned when listing videos of shows.
There's also the original Donmar version of the Cabaret revival with Jan Horrocks and Alan Cumming, but I believe it's like the Lincoln Center recordings, it was shown on tv once or twice and was never released for commercial sale.
Cats and Oklahoma were filmed, but they were not filmed as Broadway shows. There was no audience as for some of the other recordings.
House of Blue Leaves was broadcast as I have a VHS tape.
Other shows were "filmed" as stage shows, but not really live, including:
A Case of Libel with Ed Asner
Are You Now or Have You Ever Been
Working
Importance of Being Earnest
Charley's Aunt with Victor Garber!
And you could check out the following website, which purports to list all "musicals" that have aired on television - and sometimes indicates whether a video or DVD is available.

I have Tintypes and Sophisticated Ladies on DVD, released in Brazil but available through online retailers.
i have a copy of WONDERFUL TOWN filmed with Rosalind Russell that was aired on TV, so i know that one was done as well.
there was also filmed productions of:
APPLAUSE
IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, IT'S SUPERMAN
PURLIE
& THE MOST HAPPY FELLA
these all aren't released on DVD unfortunately, no matter how much i wish they were
There is VHS available of the off-broadway production of "Alice at the Palace" starring Meryl Streep. I just check AATP is available on DVD from netflix. So, you should be able to buy it.
Most shows are filmed these days and can be seen for "educational" purposes at the New York City Library for performing arts:

The SUPERMAN tape is available at the web site for Superman Store. It really is not very good and does not follow the Broadway show that much. I'd recommend avoiding it.
And one of my personal favorites, like WILL ROGERS FOLLIES...
The Original Broadway PACIFIC OVERTURES was filmed for Japanese television, and has never aired in the US or been released commercially. It's preserved at the TOFT Archive at Lincoln Center (and I think at the Museum of Television & Radio). It was filmed live at the Winter Garden Theater, and the Boris Aronson set is arrestingly sumptuous. (and Flossie's Tony Award winning costumes ain't so bad, neither...take that ACL! She had some mad samurai skillz)
Black & Blue was taped & my copy was chock full of commercials so I gave up on transferring it. The copy was not that good either
I have a fair copy of a Leslie Bricusse TV Musical of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde starring Kirk Douglas. It was never released.
Another show that is available is a one man show called Clarence Darrow starring Henry Fonda.
Where can you get a copy of The Women?
I second that question...where can you get a copy of that DVD. I'd love to see it again. That was a great cast...

Just watched my tape to DVD of SUPERMAN. Not a very good representation of the stage version. The orchestrations were terrible and ruined what is a very good score. The lead was listed as "introducing David Wilson. Others in the cast were Leslie Ann Warren as Lois and David Wayne as the villain. Then there were such well know musical peerformers as Loretta Switt and Keneth Mars :)
The production was so bad that they even had superman wearing a watch
The Chinses acrobats from Broadway were replaced with Brooklyn type gangsters.
I really can't recommend it unless you have to have every musical that was made into a video.
I'm confused puppetman, I thought we were weren't supposed to discuss dvds. ???
