Love this show; hate Cook. Here's hoping he surprises.

Would this be considered a new play?

I actually feel that Cook is a pretty good choice for this role. He definitely fits the material well.

Dane is a perfect fit for the part.

Whelp, there's one show I can save my money by not seeing. ugh- such a disgusting and not funny man. Looks like someone is having a last ditch effort to save his career.

And now commence the fantasy casting of the two females roles.

Agreed on Cook being well suited to the material. I usually don't like him at all, but I thought he was surprisingly okay in "Dan in Real Life", a movie I love.

Is Fat Pig funny? Dane Cook sure isn't.

From what I remember of the material, it's a drama with it's moments of comedy but that character Cook will be playing, Carter, is sort of an ex-frat boy type character. He thinks he's funny and witty but he's not necessarily. That's what I remember of the show at least, I may not be right.

"He thinks he's funny and witty but he's not necessarily."

Then Dane Cook is perfect.

Snooki as Helen.
Megan Fox as Jeannie.

Tonys all around.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Ugh. I don't think I could sit through two hours of Dane Cook just on principle.

Are we sure he's playing the Jeremy Piven role? Cause Cook would actually be more perfectly cast as the snarky co-worker...

Looks like someone is having a last ditch effort to save his career.

I can't stand him, but isn't he like the most successful comedian around?

yes he is the most commercially successful comedian right now and he's in high demand. his handful of film roles however are not much to speak of and most of his film roles have been disasters. Say what you will but you can't dispute the fact that he's has a very commercially successful career.

He is commercially successful among 11-year olds who find his fart, fat and body odor jokes hilarious. Everyone else thinks he's an idiot. Especially anyone else in the comedy world.

And Holbee- if you read the original post and article, he is playing the snarky co-worker, not the Jeremy Piven role.

I'll confess I don't know who Dane Cook is. Andrew McCarthy was terrific in the part off-Broadway.

I think this is Neil LaBute's best play, and I'll be interested in seeing it again.

Dane Cook's stand up isn't funny. But he's not an awful actor. And this is like the perfect role for him.

I've watched at least five of his stand-up specials, and didn't laugh once. BUT, he is a surprisingly adept actor.

So is this production directly related to the smashing success of REASONS TO BE PRETTY?

To each his own. I find Dane Cook funny. He's not brilliant, but he does make me laugh.

In 2007, Forbes Magazine estimated his earnings for the year at $9 million. In the last five years, he has starred in 10 films, and has 3 upcoming projects.(many of which were stinkers, but some were hysterical). He has released 5 shows on CD/DVD. Retaliation became the highest charting comedy album in 28 years. He has toured the country with his comedy show three times.

All the above since 2003.

Doesn't sound like a career that needs saving with a stint on broadway.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Ironically, 2003 was right around the time Cook took a turn for the worse. I first saw him in 99. Hilarious. Saw him at Carolines several times from 2000-2003, always a great, and very very funny show.

Then literally, the second he really blew up - he lost it completely. Watching his later stuff, like Retaliation, is just depressing. He was so, so, so funny. But the Dane Cook America knows (and mostly hates) has has been pretty awful. It's arena rock comedy, which deserves the ridicule it receives.

Very sad.
