I'll be there onstage tonight too! "See you" there, zedpi!
I'll be there tonight too! Front row center in the orch, yay. :)
FYI, for anyone thinking about last-minute tickets, it's 50% off at tkts for tonight's show.

To whoever went tonight, how was he??

He did great! He even got through "Dust and Ashes" without losing his voice. You'd never know Malloy hadn't performed this role for years--he still sounds exactly like he does on the off-Broadway recording. He has such a great physicality for this role, he really embodies Pierre effortlessly. I found the ending particularly moving tonight; it was like a metaphor for this whole big journey that he and this show have gone on together over the past few years, and that ending tableau with just him sitting alone onstage watching the comet shine brighter and brighter is so poignant, like Dave Malloy and "his" Comet had fused with Pierre and "his" comet.
The audience tonight was amazing, really excited to see Malloy and just excited in general.

Also, it was just great to see him together again onstage with so many of these actors and musicians who are his good friends, they were all having so much fun up there! You could tell (conductor) Or Matias was really enjoying jamming with Malloy in the pit, and "Balaga" was an even bigger party than usual--Matias couldn't stop cracking up at Malloy's "doofy drunk Pierre dance" during that song. :)

That's good to hear! I splurged for a stage seat for his final performance on June 27th, so I'm very excited!
I thought he was great, and noticed several cast members getting choked up at the end when he was singing the finale. Amber Grey was definitely crying - it was moving to see.
And agreed that it was really fun to watch him interact with the band!
The audience was definitely enthusiastic. I had two girls next to me who were screaming like he was Elvis.

And JudyDenmark, how did you like the show this time?

My friend happened to have an extra ticket for last night's performance and we got to sit on stage. Dave was wonderful! You could definitely tell the cast was really excited to have him there and you couldn't tell that yesterday was his first performance back in a long time.
Does anyone have an extra playbill insert that has his name/the cast list for that night on it or would be willing to just send me a picture of theirs? I think mine fell out at the theater and I want to be able to differentiate between the Josh Groban playbill I have and the Dave Malloy performance. Thanks!

I enjoyed it way, way more than the first time, that’s for sure! I was finally able to follow the story, thought the choreo and blocking were captivating, etc. I got to appreciate the actors that everyone has been raving about, which was nice. (I admittedly am not a huge fan of Ashford, Steele, or Grey's singing voices, so I was scratching my head over all of the praise, but getting to see them as the characters, I have a totally different appreciation because I thought they nailed their roles.) I’m really glad I chose to come back, because I have a much more positive feeling towards the show in general. But it also solidified that I truly dislike the majority of the score. Just not my cup of tea.
What honestly made me angry is that I thought the first time I had seen about 10% of the show, and I realize now that I saw about 3% of it. They need to get rid of those first row orchestra seats - it's like looking into a wall!

Actually if you just look at the principals page, Dave Malloy was added to the page in the May Playbill, so as long as you didn't see it with Groban in May/with a may playbill you should be able to differentiate between the two.
I'd post a picture but I don't know how.

As I'm not sure that I would have gone back to see a show after a lousy first experience even if I lived in the area, I am very glad your second visit was a lot better.
The score is going to be hit-or-miss for many people, and there are many songs that are nothing special without the visuals. I find the score fascinating in its diversity, and often beautiful, but that's purely a matter of personal taste.
The cast is wonderful. I didn't think Lucas Steele was in great voice the night I saw the show, and he was sometimes difficult to understand, but his overall performance was commanding and he knows exactly how to milk a moment, including audience interaction. Amber Gray makes everything look so effortless, even her solo, that it is easy to underappreciate the emotional range of her role. And I loved Ashford, an opinion not universally shared in my household. I'm sure the cast, especially longtimers, had a great time performing with Malloy again.
Anyway, I'm pleased you got to actually see the show.

Me too. At least now I can form an educated opinion instead of just being annoyed at it, haha. I'm still Team DEH & CFA at the Tonys, but I have a totally different appreciation for Great Comet now and get why people love it so much!
A pretty nice tweet by Lin, congratulating both Dave and Sara B. https://twitter.com/lin_manuel/status/860487465018298368

He was quickly corrected that Malloy already made his debut the previous night, of course. It being Twitter and all...
I ended up getting a last minute ticket to the show last night and it was really great to put a face to the voice I've been listening to on the Off Broadway cast recording. I hadn't seen the show off-Broadway and have only seen Josh as Pierre, so I was very excited to get to see Dave in the role singing the score he wrote.
Dave was fantastic and you could definitely feel what a special experience this was for him and how much he loves the show and score. His Dust and Ashes was fantastic and his final scene as someone previously mentioned was particularly poignant and wonderful leaving me in tears. Also, the cast as previously mentioned definitely was excited to have him on stage with them and by the end many of them were in tears during the finale.
If you can go see Dave in any of his performances as Pierre, I definitely suggest doing so.
Did anyone see Comet/Dave tonight? Any news? We're going tomorrow and are sitting pretty close to Dave.
(Where's my sh-shaker?)
I'm seeing it in two hours and now I'm concerned. I have Row F center orchestra. Will I have a full view?

I saw the show last night (Friday). It was my first time seeing this show, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I sat on the first row, center, of the rear mezzanine and thought my view was great. Dave gave a great performance. The audience seemed very caught up in it. And he was incredibly kind and gracious at the stage door. I wasn't sure what to expect. But I really loved the show.

I saw the matinee today and really enjoyed Dave Malloy as Pierre. He got a very warm reception with applause and cheers during his entrance at the start of the show. There was something special about watching him play the piano throughout the show because of how intimately he knows the score. It was also a treat to finally hear him sing "Dust and Ashes" on stage. Josh Groban has the stunning notes, but there's something about the rougher around the edges, world weary takes by both Dave Malloy and Scott Stangland that I love.
Quick question for everyone: I haven't seen this show and the only opportunity I have until fall is this Tuesday. With the discount code sent out offering $39 rear Mezz tix, is it worth it to rush the show Tues morning for same price tickets? Are rush tickets normally better than rear Mezz seating-wise? And if I get there around 6am, should I have any problem getting tickets? (With a limited budget, the plan is to see GC, then go camp out at Shubert for Dolly SRO tix on Wednesday - these two shows are the ones I NEED to see before I return to CA for the summer) Very excited to see Dave, his recording has been on replay since it was released. And even more pumped for Miss Benton, who I have heard nothing but phenomenal things about.

From what I have heard, rush is normally side Orchestra! So even if you do rush and get mezzanine, still the same price as buying them from telecharge, so all you have to lose is a few hours (assuming you get there early enough). Good luck!

^ there is also a Great Comet Rush thread with people posting their experiences/times to get there so I would go look at that!

With rush you run the risk of getting obstructed view seats. When I did rush I thought the seat was fine but was glad that I had already seen the show from elsewhere.
