I just bought this cd, and have a feeling it is going to be my new guilty pleasure. I can't wait for it to arrive. From the sound clips on Amazon, it sounds great. The arrangements sound yummy, and she sounds great too. Anyone have this cd? I think the song selection is amazing. Some of my favorite songs. Any thoughts?

I LOVE Deborah Gibson and have this CD. I wish I could say that I like her rendition of Colored Lights, but I don't. When I saw that she was singing it, I was also excited. I can't say exactly what it is I don't like -- it might be the orchestration (it sound's a little too much like a synthesizer), or it could be her very literal translation of the score. She seems to sing the value of each note without any freedom, which I feel this song needs. However, I think her "Let Me Entertain You" is sheer brilliance! BobbyBubby, I think you'll enjoy some elements of the CD and I hope you love all of it.

I was very surprised to find that I wasn't thrilled with it when it came. I gave it a few listens but just couldn't enjoy it. I actually believe my mother stole it because she loved it.
Did anyone see her on "Skating with Celebrities"? I saw about two minutes of her while Lost was in commercials and she didn't look so great, skating wise.
OOOOOOOOOO --- I saw that!!! It was so bad, I had to turn it off. You can't really blame the celebrities, though. It's not like Dancing with the Stars where you can learn some steps and move on. With skating, you have to do the choreography and figure out how to do it on a thin blade on a sheet of ice. Olympic level skaters fall, why should anyone expect a star to look good with only a couple of weeks of practice?
I got the CD...liked a couple of songs but wasn't overly impressed or thrilled. Truthfully, I didn't like how "I Enjoy Being a Girl" was arranged. I prefer the much upbeat version and the slower reprise Lea sings on the CD of the Flower Drum Song revival.
The arrangements on the CD are horrifyingly bad. It's almost as bad as the worst showtune album of all time- Dionne Warwick sings Cole Porter.
i love Deborah but man i was disappointed in "Colored Lights", it's just so bland, no personality at all and yes, the arrangements are like a karaoke cd. sad.
I'm sorry, Bobby, but her version of "Anytime (I Am There)" gives me chest pains.
Well, Carolee's version gives me a headache.
That's understandable, Pop.
This thread has inspired me to pull out this CD, which has been collecting dust for years, and put it on. It really is as bad as I thought. None of the songs she chose-save for maybe "On My Own"-are good fits for her vocally.
MEF -- you don't like "Let Me Entertain You"? I really like the arrangement and how she handles it. That song alone made me even more disappointed in the rest of the CD because I felt it was so good.
I really didn't care for it---a little breathy for my taste. I saw her as Louise in the Paper Mill production, as well, and didn't care for her interpretation of the character.
Deb's a sweetheart, but I agree, this CD is pretty bad. The arrangements are very karaoke. She had been trying to get a "Broadway" CD recorded for years. Hopefully one day she'll release all her "home demos" of songs she recorded from CHICAGO, CABARET and others. Two of her FUNNY GIRL tracks have already made the light of day. Sadly, they make her Fynsworth Alley CD appear to be brillant. They're pretty cheesy.
I haven't gotten it yet, but I think we might disagree for the first time, Meffie my love. I really liked the arrangements, or what I heard from the sound clips. I'll give a full report when the full disc arrives.
I barely listened to Gibson's Anytime. Carolee owns that song. Period.
I got it. I have to give it another listen. I love the arrangements. That's the best thing about it. But Gibson oversells every number. Her belt is a bit too icecreamy for my tastes. It's hard because she chose so many signature songs, that it's hard not to think of (or put on) the original as soon as Gibson opens her mouth. Here Anytime is truly awful. SHe ain't no Carolee.
