Disney's next Broadway show...

it basically looks like it'll be either Newsies or Aladdin. Both won't open during the same season, so which comes first?? Aladdin ran during the summer in Seattle while, as everyone knows, Newsies is currently playing at the Papermill Playhouse. Aladdin didn't exactly get strong reviews, while Newsies is getting a nice word-of-mouth. Does Aladdin head back into the workshop and have another out of town tryout??

I say Newsies by Summer 2012 & Aladdin by Fall 2013.

Thought I read that both being produced solely to get them up on their feet and licensed out ASAP with no real hopes of NYC production.
And after all this time you would think if HUNCHBACK was going to be produced in NYC or even Toronto or London, it would have been done by now?
Would be interested to know what is in fact on their "to do" list.

Newsies and Aladdin are both going to Broadway sometime in the next 2 years. But Disney is bringing them both to Broadway, as per friend that works at Disney Theatricals.

Menken has stated there are no plans to bring NEWSIES to Broadway.
It seems to have been done to satisfy school and community theatres who are in need of family fare. The show can make a lot of monry without the harsh glare and reviews of Broadway.

Stephen Schwartz just said last week that Hunchback is in the works again for the stage.

Merwin Foard told me that Hercules is being talked about which is really really really really exciting.

I spoke with Michael Eisner yesterday. There are plans for Matthew Broderick to reprise his role onstage as Inspector Gadget.

newsies is going on tour for at least a year like high school musical. They have realized that money isn't made on bway but on tours.

I see no need for another Disney musical on Broadway, but if Sara Ramirez were cast as Esmerelda in Hunchback, I'd find my way there.
