I saw him. I thought it was hilarious, especially during The Wedding Singer. He was in the front row at the Tonys, I'd be dancing around too! I hope the guy next to him was a friend or something, because I can certainly see how that guy would be very annoyed.
Yeah I thought he was the conductor, too. I was just being stupid, I guess.
He REALLYYY must've been enjoying himself. haha I shouldn't say anything rude though. If I was sitting in his seat I would have probably jumped the stage or something.
Well, I didn't notice the guy but as I was reading this I was totally picturing this, like, old bald dude or something with a giant toothless grin doing ridiculous dance moves.
A bit like the "Six Flags guy"
...But then I saw the bit about him being "17-25" and was a little dissapointed.
I just watched the Wedding Singer section again and I see what you mean. I was at the Tonys up in the mezz area but I don't recall seeing him down near the front. Of course from that area, I was focused on what was on the stage.
One thing that is being mentioned here is that the music was prerecorded. I don't think it was. At two times during the ceremony while I was there, they mentioned Elliot Lawrence, the conductor for the orchestra that night and that it was his fortieth year conducting the Tony orchestra (since the very first telecast of 1967). It also sure sounded live.
On a similar theme, how are the performers miked? Admittedly the clips I've seen weren't the best quality (though they were pretty good) but I couldn't spot many mikes except hand mikes, but JLY did't use that for his duracell bunny speech.
Isn't that first section before the little stage in the middle of the orchestra section reserved for the members of the Wing? It could have been a voter or something.
Yes! I saw him, he had me laughing. He seemed to be eldery, so I assumed he was just having a grand old time, and wouldn't you be if you were front row at the Tony Awards?
I was in the 4th row of the 1st Mezz. I didn't notice him either. Have to watch the tape. As far as the orchestra was concerned, I remember the announcer asking for applause for the conductor and the orchestra so we figured they were behind the stage.
