Looks like Hot Feet will be out the door very soon.
Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas will open at The Hilton Theater in October for an 11 week, 12 show week run, under the creative supervision of two time TONY award winner, Jack O’Brien, who created and conceived the show for The Old Globe Theater, in San Diego where it has been a sold out event for the past eight years.

I've heard this news before, but I'm not sure if it was on this board.

It is LEAVING San Diego?!
And did Hot Feet announce a closing date?
Updated On: 6/21/06 at 03:06 PM
I don't think Hot Feet has announced a closing, but it was at 36% last week and 32% the week before. I can't believe it hasn't already closed.
It's NOT leaving San Diego - at least not for 2 more years. Rumor has it that the Globe has extended the contract until 2011, but again, just rumor.
The NYC production will be expanded in cast size, and some of the orchestrations have changed. I believe they've also added "Welcome Christmas."
Wow...very interesting.
Is this a 20 minute show based on the book, or a 2 hour show based more on the film?

The show is quite long as I remember.
So it will be playing San Diego and New York at the same time?
Nit-picking time:
1. Grammatically, I am pretty sure the title, as you've written it, should be "Dr. Seuss' 'The Grinch That Stole Christmas'," not "who."
2. The title of the book by Seuss is "Dr. Seuss' 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

The production that runs seasonally at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego is a 90 minute production with a cast of about 25-30 (most all are local performers to create family groups on stage).
The first year of performances sold out before November - before it went into previews.
The script was orignally created for the Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis. After securing the west coast stage rights, Jack O'Brien and the Old Globe bolstered the script a bit and based alot of set designs on the original artwork of Dr. Seuss.
After seeing the production over 10 times I can honestly say that the original published book actually comes to life on stage.
Kudos to Jack and the Globe for getting this show to NYC!!! IMHO this is one of THE best shows an entire family can enjoy and you come out with that same warm fuzzy holiday feeling you get from reading the book or watching the TV special.
MisterRussell, I copy-pasted it from the press rel.
Just checking. I was unaware of the title-change. Seems odd to put "Dr. Seuss" on a show and retitle it. But I guess everybody calls "Notre-Dame de Paris" by the popular title "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame," yet still says it's by Victor Hugo.
The Globe bills the show as "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!"
Ticketmediaguy - thanks for talking up the show! It really is a beautiful show. I've always felt it was like a life-size pop-up book version come to life.
Any West Coasters not able to make it to NYC to see the show, it runs at the Globe in San Diego again this holiday season from just before Thanksgiving thru the holidays.

Have they announced a cast yet?
I can`t believe they`re brining Seuss back to b`way after Seussical. Not that I didn`t like it or I think that The Grinch is going to be bad but the other people who don`t know a thing about it are going to say "Seussical again?" But I`m sure it`s a nice show!!! Where can I hear the cast or see pics online?

Umm this has NOTHING to do with Suessical. Nobody really remembers Seussical being on Broadway, and those who do aren't stupid enough to get them confused.

From what I heard today at the Hilton, it's going to be like the Radio City Christmas Show - with multiple performances a day. It's not a "name" cast.

They are doing twelve shows a week - that means they are definitely going to have to double-cast any children's roles, and maybe the adults too - or come to a special arrangement with Equity. The regular Equity contract is eight shows a week, and never more than two consecutive two-performance days.
In San Diego, they do anywhere from 8-12 shows a week...a lot of student performances. There's a bump in pay for every show over 8. The kids are all double cast, so will never do more than 6 shows a week.
But with the show clocking in at 72 minutes, that many shows isn't that big of a deal.

They only double cast the kids now? The first year the TRIPLE casted the kids.
It was kind of a nightmare for the Box Office... "I need to know when my neighbors kid is performing"..."I need to know when my cousin's brother's sister's kid is performing".
Although Cindy Lou Who was double cast... and that character has a GREAT song... kinda makes your heart thrice as big.
In the last couple of years the kids are only double cast. Not only a nightmare for the box office - but a nightmare in the rehearsal room as well. Makes much more sense this way.
This is exciting! I am looking forward to seeing it. The Grinch is my favorite Seuss story!

Cool. This should be a fun event.
Does anyone know where I could find a cast list for this show? thanks
You might try thr Hilton Theatre's web site, although they appear not to even know the title of the show they are producing...
I don't necessarily think the NYC show has been cast yet. There was a workshop, but a cast list for that was never published. I can provide you with a cast list for last year's San Diego company, but doubt you'd know any of them.
